How do they impact? You are more cautious about prescription drugs and the harms associated with them. You are more likely to try other methods including using the pharmacy before concluding it’s absolutely necessary to engage with a medical professional. You are more likely to end up as good as giving up on medical professionals and their care due to constantly not being heard, which is why you have sought alternative methods in the first place.
You may also question how much unconscious bias plays a role in your care.
Hi, I have been a Complementary Therapist for 26yrs.
I am qualified in Anatomy & Physiology, Reflexology and many CPD modules, Reiki Healer Master which means I have taken all the training modules plus other healing modules, Thermo-Auricular Therapy/Hopi candles extra training, Emotional Freedom Technique level 2, Biomagnetic therapy using strong neodymium magnets. Kinesiology foundation.
Spiritual Medium, healer and Psychic.
I have also taken courses in Meridian energy, using acu-points.
I was an area co-ordinator for the Complementary Therapy Association for several years, this would entail running a support group for the Associations members who may practice many varied therapies.
I also took part in the Regulation surveys.
Over the years I have studied different health conditions to understand the conditions my patients may present and hope to get relief.
The courses I undertook were totally funded by myself and I received no financial assistance.
I first qualified with Anatomy & Physiology in 1997, when I first started working it was difficult to find patients. This was mainly because Reflexology was not as known about then. I was still very much a novice as the ground training was basic and gradually more and more knowledge and training was coming up.
My friend and I were approached to take part in trials, a local consultant was very interested in Reflexology treatment in conjunction with child’s asthma. We were very keen to take part to prove in some way that Reflexology did have health benefits and not just a ‘feel good’ ‘quackery’ as it was often termed. We had to approach our doctors surgery to enroll some youngsters to give free treatment and to obviously take records for the trial. So, we were given paperwork to give to the head doctor, who was my GP and knew me. After a week having heard nothing, I phoned to be told they hadn’t received it! This was rather odd I said as I’d hand delivered it into the reception! So had to resubmit the paperwork, few days later it was sent back and written on it was ‘Permission denied’! End of possible trial!
Over the years my patients have proved to me and in some cases, their GP’s that Reflexology has a lot to offer and to assist the doctors in their diagnosis, however, not many saw that potential and as I said, I am a ‘Complementary Therapist’ not alternative. Complementary means as well as, Alternative is in place of, many get these terms wrong.
We are not allowed to say that Complementary Therapy does anything other than relax a person as it is law and there are no trials to support they do anything other than, no money in it for drug companies.
Have I found the medical practitioners any different over the 26 years? Very few embrace what we have to offer, they mostly know nothing about Complementary or Alternative therapies and what they may do for the patient. Of course there will be some practitioners in different areas with different views, like NHS treatments, all different in different areas.
I have not practiced my physical therapies since Covid closed my clinic but often willing to help people with information to take to their doctors. I have changed my practices now towards Spiritual mental health and I have noticed over 26 years that many ailments have repercussions on mental health and there is little to no mental health care. I am quite experienced in mental health as over 45 years of helping look after my undiagnosed autistic mentally ill brother was incarcerated for 40 years in mental health units without respite. I would research and try to fight for a diagnosis and proper treatment.
I think sadly Covid has seen many therapists such as my self disappear from health care.
Hello. A lot of people around me use cannabis instead of anti-depressant I believe this has been around for a very long time. you see this all around the world, from African Tribes, Jamaica and even Indian Chiefs from long ago. This is never going away, and is part of the community where I live and the areas surrounded. I do not use this as I do not smoke and take my regular medication, but it is a fact that it does help people in the long run.
There are numerous alternative medicines that work wonders for modern wellness. One significant area of treatment is for Parkinson's disease. While there is no cure for Parkinson's, you can manage the symptoms effectively with proper medication, diet, exercise, and routine care.
