Hi. I am a carer and have been put on this drug for my anxiety about our situation and looking after my husband who has psp.I can only say that I found it very good,it has taken the edge of the anxiety and made life more manageble.I think the answer would be to try it and see if it makes a helpful difference, if not then discard it again after a period.Discuss with your doctor.I was loosing a lot of weight and the side effect of this drug is, you gain weight,so it got me back up and I am now stable for months. It also helps me sleep as I was not sleeping either.

Hope this helps make the choice.Drugs are so different for each person.

Hi Mars,

I am not familiar with this drug but I do know that if you read the side effects of ANY medication there is a long list of horrific sounding POTENTIAL side effects. That is because the drug companies, by law, are required to list ANY potential side effect. That does not mean that Tony will experience all, or even any of them!

As Pinda says, it is worth trying. If it doesn't help, or Tony suffers from the side effects you can always stop.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes

Love Kathy xx

My wife has been on a low dose of Mertazapine with no side effects that we are aware of. The list of potential side effects is to protecht the drug company from lawsuits.

Hi, my husband has been on Mirtazapine for about 8 months. It was prescribed to stop him acting so impulsively when he was anxious - directly things worried him he would be hareing off somewhere to sort it out even if it meant putting himself in the way of danger. He is on the highest dose now and it has been very successful (We do still keep the doors locked indoors and a stair gate to stop going upstairs). Increased appetite and weight gain is the most noticeable side effect for us - he tends to eat and drink more when he is anxious anyway. Hope this is helpful.
