It varies. If your catheter is out, you might try depend guards (just in front, more comfortable). Do those kegels!
I agree with YostConner, you might want to use pads instead and use a diaper for the night if you have so much leakages.
I had surgery almost 3 months ago and I am almost continent. I was frustated as you might be now and this feeling lasted for a month after cahether removal. Only after a month went by that I started noticing improvements. For 2 weeks ago already that I have days with zero leakages and ony during weekends as I walk much more and move around everywhere that leakages are a bit more.
I recommend you do kegels exercises and do them while walking. I would say do as much as you can. I used to do and I am still doing always when walking.
Well I am 6 months after surgery and found the Guards best. I was getting through 4 or 5 a day initially, now it's often just one and sometimes it stays dry. They also do a light version which v is smaller and I have used those on some days. I did a therapy course for really getting Kegels done properly and how to learn other ways of minimizing little leakages. When I started back at the gym I had some surprise leaks, the therapists showed me how to breathe differently etc so now the gym is mostly fine. Kegels are important but some people simply don't do them properly although they think they do. The therapists at Memorial Sloan Kettering actually insert fingers and check that you are doing correct Kegels. Not all Kegels are the same. Anyway unless you are badly leaking I would switch to the Guards insert and ditch the diaper. Good luck.
My catheter was in place for 3 weeks, so good for you! 6 years later I still use guards (day) and depends (night).
I have found reducing caffeine and alcohol - any diuretics- really helps.
I used the Depends underwear for about a month or two and then switched to the guards. It has been 13 months since my surgery and now I use the guards only when I am not at work. I don't feel confident enough yet to go without them at work.
I'm brand new to the group and first post. My husband had surgery in March. After they removed his catheter he didn't leak, he gushed which made him severely depressed. I read in another page to watch caffeine, alcohol, and certain foods plus cut these out at least 2 to 3 hours before bed. Plus the doctor prescribed Vesicare which helped him get over the hump. Like so many he's now in a guard all day and Depends at night. We also purchased a washable mattress pad instead of the disposable kind. Now if only wee willy winky worked as well as mine....
