HIFU 2023 article does not seem positive

This article from early 2023 does not seem positive on HIFU.

I have a friend looking at HIFU in the setting of a clinical trial. He's Gleason 6 with just 1 of 12 portions of his prostate affected. Technically, he could do active surveillance, but docs suggested HIFU.

Now after I post, I see that Tall Allen cited this article in his summary: prostatecancer.news/2016/12...

Dr. Ehdaie, associated with prestigious hospitals has in recent years come to believe that HIFU is a viable alternative for some men.

You will find several screens on ablation. HIFU isn't the only type of ablation either.

If one chooses ablation I would advise lifestyle changes if needed. A reasonable BMI, avoiding processed meats, stopping excessive drinking--a glass of red a couple times a week is good for the body and soul! Exercise, reducing stress--uh huh--you have had cancer and a positive attitude is healing and preventive when living with, killing or preventing future cancers.

If you are indeed a candidate for ablation treatment, carefully choose who will do the treatment. Be cautious and consider carefully the words in a consultation. If there is one isolated tumor that isn't overly aggressive an ablation may be very effective. If in the consultation, imaging has revealed that two or more cancers have been found and it is suggested that the more aggressive cancers be ablated and the G6's can remain under active surveillance?? Really? Even the very best imaging has it's limitations.

Be careful with your choice of treatment and the practitioner.

When a doctor such as Dr. Ehdaie is enthusiastic about ablation treatment for prostate cancers that it shows how far the treatments have advanced--depending on who does the ablation. Remember, Dr. Ehdaie said that ablation is viable --for some cancers. Again, be careful in your choice of the doctor.
