I'm not sure but I take 5000 i.u.'s of vitamin D3 every day. A doctor told me cancer patients have low D3 levels. I had mine checked, and it was low.

in reply toMagnus1964

How low was it?

Mine 31.4 (30-100 normal range).

I am taking on and off for kidneys'

protection.

As I recall my D level was 30. After I started vitamin D3 supplements it went to 80.

Hi: taking 5000 mg of D is fine. As far as I know, you can’t overdose on it, especially since it is sold over the counter.

You can overdose over the counter.... panadol, paracetamol. I believe take 24 before bed and you cancer will be gone and so will you. :)))

Yes, one can. It is stored in the liver and in fat so doses accumulate. High doses of Vitamin D pulls calcium out of bones, weakening them, and puts the calcium into the blood. High calcium can cause kidney stones and other problems. One should only supplement Vitamin D (or calcium) if blood levels are low.

If you’re taking D-3 like I am ? also you should take k- 2 with it . Peace down under !😷🙏

Vitamin D depleted easily from our bodies. I was taking 10,000 IU D3 daily and increased it to 20-30,000 IU daily for the last 6 months. I know that this could be very high dose, but no any side effects so far...

yes. vitamin D in high doses can be toxic. See: mayoclinic.org/healthy-life.... It is rare. When I was in medical school the teaching was that it was common. That was based on isolated anecdotes of mountain men surviving on bear liver in the winter and developing toxicity. Currently >60,000 IU per day is associated with toxicity. Most of the toxicity arises from too much calcium in the blood.

Hey dadzone43!

Yes indeed--I read that. The yearly physical should include a complete blood count done. Vitamin D level is tested for in it. You can then make any necessary adjustments.

Balance and synergy!

Mine has been low most of my life. I just upped mine to 2000iu after a low blood test of 22. My Dr said this is common in my area. My mist recent test was 26 so will keep it up.

I've heard that too much D3 could aggravate atrial fibrillation problems.

Long term ADT use is associated with osteoporosis. I have been on ADT for two years and had a bone density scan done in November. It showed the beginnings of osteoporosis. I also had a blood test done which showed low vitamin D. I saw a bone specialist to try to slow down the degeneration of my bones. On his advice, I am taking 800 UI of vitamin D daily. I normally eat a higher than normal calcium diet (milk, yogourt, cheese, spinach) so I only supplement that if I don't eat enough.

Four years ago I was taking 5,000 units/day. I developed a persistent case of diarrhea. My MO sent me to a gastroenterologist. He did a colonoscopy (from the bottom up) and an endoscopy (from the top down) and found no cause for it. I stopped the Vit D and the runaway digestion stopped as well. I now take 2,000 units/day.

I was 29 so I take 4000 i.u.’s per day. Question though does everyone take it all at once? I take 1 2000 twice a day
