Dont panic. Even those who are low risk can still have a baby with down syndrome. Just because they say your high risk doesnt mean its definate. I know this must be very worrying for you but take it step by step. Nothing is set in stone at the moment, this probably happens more times than you would think. Make sure you ask all the questions you want at your appointment so you have all the information and some peace of mind. I wish you the best of luck. X

Mumaj - Thank you SO much for the kind words. I have calmed down after psyching myself up about it. I had read all about this and knowing my age etc should have been more prepared. But realised you can never be prepared to received 'that' kind of call.

My last scan of Monday the results were great. Baby measurements e.g. head, legs, arms brain all correct add to the wonderful noises that I was getting from the midwife doing the scan I should not worry.

Thank you again and will post results. xx

This may sound a bit harsh but does it really matter? A baby is a baby, downs syndrome or not. I can understand the shock as my friend had the same results and she's only 21 but didnt flicker an eye lid. If your age is the same as the number in your name here then I am not at all surprised alot of woman over 35 have children with downssyndrome. If all measurements were normal than there is a high chance that your baby doesn't have it but dont be 'sad' if he/she does especially as you seemed to be prepared for the risks.

Kell_E Appreciate your comments.

I too agree with you as I really don't care either way.

It was the shock of the results coming back so fast and the 'way' I was informed that upset me more than anything.

I have read and completely aware of the risks upon me or any other woman carrying their first baby.

And Yes I am 42 and will be 43 when I have the baby.

But in addition to this, and as I was to later find out the reason why I was called in so quickly was that my blood group came out RH (D) NEGATIVE (has no protein, does not derive from the Rhesus gene- monkey gene that 85% of world population has. It cannot be cloned, the scientist call it 'PURE BLOOD' and only 15% of the world population has and as an African that reduces it to 0.3%. My blood type can be used/given to everyone else but I cannot have any type except my own)

Very rare and maybe why the midwife was so 'effasive'. Because of this had called in a specialists to perform the amniosis so that my blood did not come in contact with the baby's as my antibodies would kill the baby. (There was another lady there too also of the same blood type)

Anyway the Gynacologist performed the procedure very well and I had a antibody injection after.

The only thing that was freaky was the baby touched the needle! The Dr said was normal as they sense there is a foreign body entering their space and curious. No harm came it the little one.

But what a emotive day of revelations for me that's for sure.

Will post the results when I know

Oh. And I have to bank my blood just in case. Apparently in very low supply.

Aww your very welcome hun, glad i could help. Im so pleased that the procedure went well for you. I can completely understand that even though you can be expecting the worst its still a shock when it happens and can be upsetting still. I know that you just want the best for your baby. Let me know the results, wishing you all the best. Remember one step at a time, try not to worry too much (i know easier said than done) until you get the results and you know what is what. Xx

HAPPY TO REPORT! ALL TEST CLEAR! BABY GREAT AND I'M FEELING FANTASTIC!

Massive weight off my mind and my midwife was superb! Calming gave me straight answers and texted to tell me (rather than call) that my results were 'good'

PHEW!

Now will have a glucose test in Jan 2013 other than that ALL GOOD UNDER THE HOOD!

Thank you all for the concern, love and support. Either way the cards, fate, God, or whatever decided, the gave me the best blessings.

And I wish the same for you all too. xxx

That is great news, congratulations! I'm so glad to hear... Now you can truly enjoy the second half of your pregnancy and relax again. All the best to you and your little one!
