I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I recently attended my 2nd scan. I asked the sonographer about gender but after checking a lot she said couldn't find it because of the baby's position. I told her, I just wanted because my friends are excited to know and plan a party. She said it was hard to guess because of position but it might be a baby girl but not sure. My question is, are baby girls easy to predict, or boys? I think I wouldn't offer anymore more scans from NHS after this. I'm curious do I believe her guess or it could be wrong, anyone face this situation, that baby girl or boy but not sure.

20 weeks scan and gender revealing
I wouldn't trust something so important on a guess. I would opt for a private scan to see the gender
I definitely would not go with a guess! Speak to your care provider again to see if you can have another scan. If not, opt for a private scan.
Do your friends have to know the sex of the baby to plan the party? They could just plan a party with a much more exciting theme than the boring blue or pink 😉How about a safari theme, circus, beach theme, rainbow theme or funfair theme there's lots of options that's not reliant on knowing.
I didn't find out for either of my children and loved having surprises, so I can highly recommend it, I quite enjoyed how frustrating some people find it too, people are so impatient 😊
I totally loved other people's frustration at us not finding out our babies genders... and at not revealing names for both. I think it was one of the best bits about being pregnant. So little in life is a surprise anymore than waiting was brilliant!
This is so true! Some people could not understand why we wanted to wait. 🙃 We even played a mini game with my MIL giving her tips on the name ie it started with M and it was a biblical name knowing she would never guess it right. Some of her guesses were absolutely hilarious 😆
Also, on my day of delivery by C section, the doctors and nurses enjoyed playing the guessing game of the gender of our baby. Intriguingly they all guessed right! I absolutely loved waiting to find out 😊
I was so glad we didn't find out, an acquaintance of mine found out and went on and on about how she 'had to know' to bond with baby. It infuriated me so much, I maintained that the sex of my baby would have absolutely no impact (and never would) on my ability to bond with them.So I stubbornly never found out, she doesn't even know that she's one of the reasons I didn't find out 🤣
My first the midwives couldn't call it, the second they all thought it was a boy because of how nothing was easy with them, they would move at the last minute during procedures etc, but no, just another stubborn girl, like her mother 🤣
😂😂😂
I think the whole bonding reason is an excuse. For centuries people did not know the sex of their baby prior to birth. We have just become impatient as a generation.
I certainly had fun with the wait and I knew I would be extremely happy either way. Like you I have a wilful stubborn girl who is like her mother. I feel sorry for DH who does not get a look in sometimes 😬
If you want to know the gender, I would wait a week or so while your little one wriggles around into a different position then go and get a private scan. Better to be sure.Or you can do what seb9 has said and have a beige gender party. It's still celebrating the bump
I wouldn’t guess, maybe organise a private scan? I did and they suggested I eat or drink something sugary before attending as the baby would be more active and she was! Never stopped wriggling but we got our gender and some lovely pictures xx
Thanks, I was just curious to know if only girls are hard to figure out in 20 week scan that's why we mostly need to go for another guess. I think boys are easy to judge and are clear in 2nd. I asked one lady who came there for the 24th-week scan She told me after 3 scans she got to know, she has a baby girl before they were telling in code words. Bless her. Thanks all lovelies.Bless you All❤
so for Girls you are looking for the hamburger (that’s what the sonographer told us ! And it did look like a little burger with bun!) boys look quite different to suppose easy to see as long as they are in the right position. We found out the sex at 16 weeks good luck! xxx
My understanding is that boy predictions are more accurate than girl predictions. I'm in a similar situation to you - baby was at an awkward angle at the 20w scan and I was told they're 'probably a girl'.
I've been gifted some second hand girl's clothes (which I've gratefully accepted) but otherwise I'm buying gender neutral items. There's lots of lovely stuff out there.
Others suggested that I get a private scan to confirm, but I'm content just to wait and see.
All the best for the rest of your pregnancy!
