windy baby when weaning

Hi everyone! We are almost a month into veg-led weaning. My baby got very windy, especially at night, which disturbs her sleep a lot ☹️. Had anyone have this issue and do you know how I can help my LO? What food is best to give to calm the gassiness?

Thank you!

Hey! I'll be following your post as my little boy starting veg this week and has also had gas overnight. So far just carrot and sweet potato so non-gassy veg. I completely understand digestive changes will happen when going from milk to food but keen to see any responses you get. I followed advice just to stick to breakfast for him too which doesn't seem to have changed the overnight gas 🤔 hope your little one finds it eases soon! Xx

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. I had this problem and it was horrendous-his sleep was horrific, sometimes waking up 7 or 8 times before we even made it to bed. We only fed him in the morning but it was nighttime he was worst. In the end out of desperation we stopped solids for a few days (he was a different baby almost immediately) and then restarted. This time we gave really small amounts of single veg puree (about a teaspoon) and mixed with twice quantity of baby rice for some bulk. After about a week we shifted the ratio of veg to baby rice. I think he just wasn’t quite physically ready for weaning the first time as he’s been fine this time and also seems more enthusiastic about the food. Least gassy veg are carrot, sweet potato, potato, parsnip. He also doesn’t find peas gassy but I think they can be. The worst are broccoli, kale, cabbage, cauliflower (ie the brassicas). He was quite farty after corn as well although it did not stop him sleeping. Xx

I definitely need to see the answers to this one. I'm doing terribly with the weaning and have stopped the baby rice because of the wind he was getting. I feel like I'll be breastfeeding for ever and ever! 😭

Our little boy has a bad tummy gassy and constpitated for days sometimes even before weaning so I was a little worried so We tried getting him used to porridge first at breakfast time as the wee veg packs or even me blending fresh veg made him really gassy. after a few weeks of that (which still defo had an impact in his poop and digestive system but not as bad) we introduced a bit of some fruity packs through the porridge and then moved on to the fruit ones alone separate for lunch. We then did the ones that had fruit and veg in (sounds weird fruit with veg but they do sell them 😂) then about a month after starting he would eat veg alone or really whatever one I put my had on in the cupboard and was on 2 meals a day.

My health visitor did warn me not to start with fruit over veg as he might like the sweet flavour too much and spit out the veg once we started that but it was best on his tummy so I ignored her and luckily at that age he basically ate anything I put down to him (starting to get fussy now at 16 months 🤣😂 would prefer to eat birthday cake all day 🙊) xx

I don’t know if this will work for your wee one as I think they are all different so probs a bit of trial and error but maybe worth a go? At this stage they will be getting all they need from the milk though so defo the time to experiment with what works xx
