Best Breastfeeding to bottle advice please

Hello ladies, my 6wk old little girl has thus far been exclusively breastfeed (bar 1 or 2 small feeds with a bottle) and we are now trying to get her to take a bottle (with Aptamil) to combine feeds.

I’m still planning on breastfeeding most of the time, but if she would take a bottle my husband could just do one feed a day and it would free me up to go to appointments/take a bath etc. I’m happy to pump and he can use my milk in it too.

Do you have any tips for getting her to accept a bottle please? Different teats/techniques perhaps?

Thanks 😊

I’m afraid it’s just going to be trial and error. Definitely look up about pace feeding, as bottles are easier than boobs to get milk from so baby is likely to drain a bottle faster- this may give the illusion of baby being really hungry when in reality she’s drinking too fast to register she’s full.

With my son he was happy with tommee tippee bottles but my daughter has tried madela, nuby, tommee tippee and another I can’t quite remember and refused them all. She’s 1 now and never accepted a bottle.

Some people have success feeding from a cup or syringe if all else fails with bottles.

Good luck xx

I agree with this trial and error but it might just not work. My first never took a bottle.

We found this worked best if I stayed well out of the way while my husband was feeding her - at least at the beginning. I guess those boobs are a distraction!!

I was advised about pace feeding from the HV. My little boy loved the bottles though and after 2 he didn’t want me anymore! He’s refuse the boob! Xx

I agree with everything one in here you just have to see if your baby will like it. But I wouldn’t wait for too long. I started introducing a bottle when my son was 4 weeks with my expressed breast milk and he has been good with it. And still likes to feed from my boob. My daughter never wanted any bottle and she used to cry for my boob. I started bottle when she was 3 months and really wished I did early maybe I would have positive results. All the best x
