Down syndrome test
Hi there, which test for Downs syndrome do you mean?
I had the normal combined screening when I had my bloods taken and the measurements taken at my 12 week scan, but I've seen from your previous posts that you've already had your 12 week scan. Have you had the results back from this yet from the screening tests?
Hi I had the scan at 12 weeks, but they said I need to do blood test after 15 weeks.
I had my bloods taken at my booking in appointment, so I had already done them before the scan. Maybe because of the lockdown it's a bit different now. I think most people have the combined screening and only have further tests if these come back high risk. Good luck xx
We had the screening. Where I went for my scan, it's a small part of the hospital with phlebotomists right next to the scanning rooms so they sent me to have my bloods done there for the screening too.
For some people, like us, it isnt an issue. But with the other diseases that they look for, it would be good to know what we're facing if baby did have one but that personal preference x
I was a late booker with my little boy, so i had the quad test which contains the test for Down Syndrome as I'd missed the cut off date to have his neck measurements taken and i was the exact same as you, not sure if i wanted to know! But I got my results back and honestly, it was worth it for the relief, but at the same time worth it to let myself know what i was in for if any came back positive.
Our little boy was really stubborn on his 12 week scan and refused to move into a position where they could measure his neck so we had the quad test at 16 weeks, just a blood test.
Or do you mean the amnio, the invasive test? Everyone is different. I've not wanted the amno even though I am 40 but that's my choice. There are a few downs tests so don't know which one you mean. Plenty of info available about all tests if you need to put your mind at rest.
Hi there,
I’ve just had the NIPT blood test done last week and in the hell of waiting for results back. This checks for Downs, Edwards and Patau syndrome.
This test states it’s 99% accurate so if a high result there is a chance you have this but would advise if that is the case to have the amino test.
I did my test private at a NHS hospital and cost £400 as as I’m 40 it’s something I would rather know sooner than later. You can have this done from 10weeks.
I’ve had the blood test like everyone at a certain amount of weeks that came back positive I was like 1-7 chance and then did the Amnio test it feels like a lot of pressure... uncomfortable but worth it. At the time I wish I didn’t know because it made my pregnancy so sad and hard the not knowing.. BUT now that my daughter is born and DOES have Down syndrome I’m happy we found out because they looked after her closely and I had time to process the idea and learn about her syndrome. Rather than birth and deal with it all together plus she stopped growing in my tummy and had to be token out so I’m grateful. She’s one amazing lil brat. she’s 10 now :0) she’s a shorty lol long hair amazing laugh and loves to pretend to make YouTube videos and take selfies hahahahaha favorite YouTube is Marcus and Lucas :0) wouldn’t change her for nothing!!
