I’m in my 3rd trimester and went for my usual midwife appointment just before Christmas. When my tummy was measured, there had been no change in size since my last visit so I was referred the following day to the hospital for an additional scan to check all was well with my baby. My babies movements are still strong and regular but understandably I was concerned. The sonographer was happy with the scan and all looks fine with my baby but I’m going back next week for a further scan just to make sure. Fingers crossed my baby and tummy have grown. Anyone experienced this or similar?

Growth of my tummy/baby slowed in 3rd trimester
Yep I was sent for extrascan as my growth tailed off ... baby was absolutely fine (she's 2now) and very average sized 7.5 pounds... my second also showed below 50th centimetres on measurement she was born a whooping 8.5 pounds (91th centile!!)
These things aren't always that accurate !
Great, that definitely puts my mind at ease. I’ve been told that my baby is on schedule to be 5lb! I’m 5’2” (petite) and feel massive although everyone tells me I’m small or have a very neat bump. I was an 8lb 6oz baby myself and my husband was 10lb (he’s 6’3”) so I’m petrified of having a huge baby!
I had two extra growth scans too (two weeks apart) as there was no change in my tummy between appointments too. Everyhing was absolutely fine. The sonographer told me the baby was going to be over 9lb and she was 7lb when she was born. It’s definitely not an exact science! Good luck for your scan next week!
Yes, it sounds exactly what I’m experiencing. I’m seriously at bursting point though and really don’t think my stomach could stretch any further! Many thanks for your reply - much appreciated.
I had this at 36weeks but as with Your scan all was fine, they induced me on my due date cause he had stopped growing, so while he looked healthy they chose to get him out to make sure it stayed that way, at 36weeks I was estimated to have a 9lb baby, but he stopped growing and he was 6lb 5oz when born. All was fine and he arrived safely. It’s good they are keeping a closer eye on you. Try and relax. X
It’s good to hear your good news - thanks. I’m just hoping that the midwives measured from different points and everything will be all ok. I’m 33weeks just now and honestly feel like my stomach couldn’t stretch anymore! Fingers crossed all news is good next week. Appreciate your reply - thank you.
I had an extra scan with my second. Turned out the midwife had just measured wrong, I think. Measurements can change depending on babies position and amount of fluid. As the scan showed no concerns, I wouldn't stress about it! My daughter was 9.2lbs 😂. So all was fine.
Yes, that’s exactly what my midwife said about the previous midwife measuring incorrectly (or differently) and didn’t seem overly concerned but wanted me to get further scans to check on my baby. I will find out next week, fingers crossed. Thanks. Appreciate your replies, they have been very helpful.
It'seems good that they check everything just to be sure. Hopefully you will feel more reassured.
Yes, I have to say I have been impressed with the care and attention I have received so far. Our poor NHS service rarely gets praise. Next week, I will find out more information or will just have to have regular scans until D-day. Thanks.
I was the opposite way around they said i was measuring fine i had a nice neat bump not too big was measured the same for 2 weeks and my baby was 9lb 12oz born so they aint always accurate
I had my 2nd growth scan and all looks to be ok. I was originally told at the 1st growth scan that my baby would be approximately 5lb when born but at this scan was told that it’s approximately 4lb 3oz already. I’m going back in a further 2 weeks for a 3rd to make sure all is on schedule as these measurements are not always highly accurate, hence a 3rd growth scan.
