Sweep

I have been offered a sweep on Thursday. I will be 39 weeks then. Will it be worth it or should I wait. I think I'm just nervous about going into labour and that's why I'm not sure whether I should go for it. Any advice?

It’s completely about what you are comfortable with lovely. I had a sweep and it got my labour underway but I was already in the comfort of the labour suite at the hospital. Then again, I know people where it didn’t do anything and even had more than one. It’s absolutely normal to worry about the labour but it’s coming regardless and a little help along the way to get it done and over with might not be a bad thing. Best of luck with whatever you decide! X

When I was pregnant my first sweep didn't work my second one did I was at 4cms when I had my second sweep and 2cms at my first sweep doesn't hurt to have one I visited a local midwife place like a children's centre for mine I wasn't in the hospital till I was 10 cm dilated

Most first sweeps never work, only a few do, if your worried and if you feel like your not ready then let your baby come at its own time!x

Any reason why they are offering you a sweep? It's up to you tho... They tried with me first time but cervix was completely closed. Then they tried when I was 3cm dilated ... Wasn't particularly comfortable but only lasted a minute. Already was having slow contractions and that worked as I gave birth with 24hr... Although I was already 40+5 hence why I had it.

They offer it at 39 and 40 weeks in my area. They also book you in at 39 weeks to be induced at 41 weeks. I think that's what I have in my mind, they are going to try and my cervix will be closed. I've got a few days to decide still, I suppose I can always speak to the midwife on the day.

You can refuse any procedure any at point even 2 mins before its done. I'd ask the pro & cons. If your cervix is closed then it's closed not much that can be done about that.

I had had an induction booked for me at 41 weeks too but as the sweep worked never needed it. I'm due tomorrow with my current pregnancy, seeing midwife in Thursday and would get a sweep at the point just as I'm due anyways ... App I will be booked for induction possibly for week after if nothing has happened so I'll be 41+ something

Hi Hun , obviously do what makes you feel or are comfortable with. I had two sweeps with my daughter who is now 3 years old ( I have a 15,13 year old too) but on my first sweep I was 2cm and it didn’t work then I had the second one done at 41 weeks at docs and I was 3cm and that didn’t work either so I went into hospital to be induced at 42 weeks where I had my waters broke and 5 hours later she was born! Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t but it’s up to you! Wish you luck xxx

I had an attempt at a sweep at 40 weeks but they said my cervix was completely closed so they’re waiting til 41 weeks to try again. I guess it doesn’t hurt to give it a go - anything to get the little one moving eh?!
