Hi guys, hope you all doing okay. I had got my little one into a good nightime sleep routine. But at beginning of June I was seriously ill and spent a month in hospital. Since I came out my little one will only sleep in bed with me, will not settle in his cot at all. Could anyone please offer any suggestion? Would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Sleep advice much needed
Probably not helpful, but he just wants reassurance that you are there and not going away. It's a phase and you will find a way through and will get past it. Does he sleep in his cot in the day? It may be nothing to do with you having been in hospital and he's going through a development growth spurt and needs you to be close by. Just remember he won't be sleeping in your bed when he's a teenager or goes to university - he'll grow out of it at some point. Hope someone else can offer some ideas to help with the transition - remember you have to do what works for you. I don't like 'cry it out' but I resorted to it with my daughter when I sleep deprivation was getting to me and I couldn't function during the day.
Thank you so much for your reply. He wont sleep in his cot at all. We both manage to sleep at night so that isn't a problem. you get all these people saying you should never sleep with your baby x
As long as you do it safely, co-sleeping is great. I met a health visitor that actually recommended it. My 6 month old baby sleeps in our bed almost every night at the moment, not the whole night but I've got a toddler to look after as well as him so I need sleep! Enjoy your sleepy snuggles, it won't last forever and you'll miss him when he moves into his own bed.
I think that there are a couple of options and they might depend on how old you son is - how old is he? If you don't mind me asking.
If it's not bothering you and he is sleeping well then I think that the advice in the first post is good. You could just leave him to it, wait until he's feeling more secure and then try for the cot again in a few months. If it is bothering you, as in you're not getting enough sleep, then maybe you do need to do something. Get him to nap during in his cot first, it might take a good few days to make this happen if he's not doing it already. I had to lie down next to the cot, hold his hand, pat him, gently bounce the mattress, all kinds of things to get him to nap in his cot but once he did, he went down a treat. After a month or so, I started to put him down in his cot at night too. A full night of uninterrupted sleep was hard won in this household but, as a posted mentioned above, it's all just a phase. He'll sleep beautifully one of these days
hi my baby slept with me till twelve months then when I thought he would jump out of the bed if I wasnt there I got him a cot, placed his cot near my bed lied down and patted him till he slept and could see me saying good boy clever boy and within two days he had a routine,He has just cut eight teeth in three months so sometimes whines and comes in with us at 6 am or 3 am but hes always in his cot at 7 in the evening and sleeping within fifteen mins, try this as a transition and he will soon be used to it. Hes just scared you will vanish again poor thing.
Thank you so much for your reply
