Booked in for a scan at 34 weeksish?? I had the same and was booked in for a scan at 34 weeks and it had moved. It seems most of the time this is the case. On a few occasions it doesn't move but it seems to happen a lot less x

Same here - except that it hadn't moved enough so I was booked for a caesarean at 38wks but when I went in for it I asked for another scan and it was completely clear of the cervix and I went home. Gave birth vaginally 2 wks later. Just a thought in case you find that it isn't out of the way by your next scan. It's not a major concern unless you have any spotting - as Fattyboom has said it moves in the vast majority of cases.

I was unlucky, was grade 4 at 20 weeks, grade 3 at 32 weeks, grade 2/3 at 36 weeks; c-section done at 37+5. As my placenta was also anterior and the baby was transverse, it made my section trickier. They actually wanted me to stay in hospital from 35 weeks in case of a bleed or I went into labour but as my husband was with me 24/7 and we live just 15 mins from the hospital, we were able to put it off a week. My section was actually planned at 37 weeks on the dot but due to the position of the placenta, they wanted a radiologist on hand in case of a major haemorrhage but he was of sick so it was postponed. Is it your first child? If your placenta doesn't move (as the above posts it usually does) they will take any previous pregnancies into account before deciding when to schedule the section. If they arrived early, you will be booked in early; if late they will wait till you are 38 weeks at least.

If still low at 32 (or 34) weeks, you will be advised to take it easy - no exercise, no heavy lifting and NO sex!!

Good luck x

I had the same thing at my 20 week scan, my next scan is the end of this month at 32 weeks and I am dreading them telling me I can't have a natural vaginal birth. If it has moved a bit I shall be asking for a second scan before a c-section as Nanking has said! :) fingers crossed for you xx

A low laying placenta at 20 weeks isn't necessarily that bad, you still have another 15 to 20 weeks for your uterus to grow and expand and move the placenta higher, it all depends on whereabouts its attached. Try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know!) you'll most likely have at least one or two more scans between now and 37 weeks. If the placenta is too low for a vaginal delivery at 37 weeks then a c-section will, unfortunately, be your only option. However, this isn't a bad thing either, at least you'll know two things - 1. You're baby's birthday (not many of us know that in advance :P ) and 2. It's the best thing for you and your baby and thats the most important thing.

If you end up having a c-section and feel you've let yourself down please ask to speak to one of the senior midwives about it as they can book you in for postpartum counselling sessions. I only found out about this recently and wish I'd know about it before, could have done with it myself with my last one!

Most low laying placentas resolve themselves, and if it doesn't try not to stress, it'll all be worth it in the end :)

Hi Ladies

Thanks so much for your replies.

I am not that overley worried at the moment as still a long way to go.

Maybe I should just stay away from the internet as I think all the things I was reading were making me feel uneasy.

Many thanks.
