Where I used to live and had my first scan, they told me they offered scans between 11 and 14 weeks....I had mine 13+6. However, I have seen people on here say where they live they were offered scans up to 15wks so I'm thinking its normal x

yeh as fattyboom says I think its where u live like many things as hosp I went too was 11-15 weeks, not a prob tho, enjoy the scan x

Most places do the first scan between 11 & 14 weeks to enable them to do the measurements they need to do. I'd just phone n check you've not been booked a bit late. Enjoy tho!! Loved my first scan :-)

The first scan is for dating purposes and downs syndrome measurements (neuchal scan?) which I think is okay at 15 weeks but you might need to check that. Good luck x

Hi - this is what it says about scans on the NHS website:

"All women should be offered a dating scan between weeks 8 and 14 of pregnancy, and a nuchal translucency scan between 11 weeks, 2 days and 14 weeks, 1 day of pregnancy. If you choose to be screened for Down's syndrome, the dating scan and the nuchal translucency scan can be carried out at the same time, between 11 weeks, 2 days and 14 weeks, 1 day of pregnancy."

Exactly the same thing happened to me in my first pregnancy - on the scan date I was offered I would have been more than 15 weeks pg. I know its a very individual choice, but personally I wanted the nuchal translucency scan to screen for Down's syndrome at the same time, so I rang the hospital and they gave me an earlier date.

So basically if you want the Down's screening you need to ask the hospital for an earlier scan, but if you wouldn't want that screen, the date they've given you should be fine. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy.

I thought the whole point of the 12 week scan was to identify if there were any issues and giving you time to think about things? I can empathise, this is my first pregnancy, I am 8 weeks and I haven't heard anything from the midwife. I'd give them a call and see if they can squeeze you in earlier.

11-15 weeks is the guide line, I never had mine till I was 14 weeks.
