Winter Coats and Car Seats - Check for Safety!

Thick Coats and Snowsuits Reduce Car Seat Safety

By Heather CorleyAs the coldest part of winter approaches, parents everywhere bring out their babies' winter coats or snowsuits to keep baby warm during travel. However, thick winter coats or snowsuits can compromise your child's car seat safety. In order for a baby car seat or toddler booster seat to function properly, the straps need to remain tight against the child's chest. Winter coats and snowsuits make car seat safety difficult because they change the way a child fits into the car seat. When the car seat straps don't fit the child properly, there is a chance the child could be ejected from the car seat.

Its scary really! Ive always took our coats off in the car out of safety and comfort. Its a horrible thought though trying to keep your child warm can have Devastating consequences xx

Ahhh so you found an article on it...that's good. I have been using layers like a nice knitted cardie & blankets which he kicks off anyway but I guess should carry a cost/snowsuit in case of s breakdown! Xx

Good point about bringing the snowsuit! I also use knitted cardis and blankets. Also thinking of putting some extra cartons of formula in the boot. Always have 1 and bottle in changing bag but that may not be enough - no need to worry for BF babies!!!

Yeh def I carry extra everything in my boot for him just in case xx

Its crazy the amount of parents i see when i go out who bring out the car a baby tht resembles a giant marshmallow where they r so padded out..u wud of thought hospitals might tell u b4 u leave..

I found a lady online who makes car seat cosies/pushchairs cosies and got one made for finley. Basicly its got holes in for the straps of car seat and u put tht in carseat and thread straps through then u put the baby in..strap them in then do the fleece up like a coat around ur baby..it has a hood and everything and can b used in the pushchair when hes bigger as has more holes for tht. .if u have Facebook. .check out the page katherines cosy creations..I posted a pic of finley to her site in his cosy. I always use a fleecy sleepsuit over their clothes when in the car seat, next do a navy one with stars it does the job.and keeps them warm its £8 and i put a blanket over him and hat on till car warms up... don't think some people realise... so def good to highlight it ceri! :)
