I went for a walk this morning to Trafalgar Square to take some photos of historical buildings, but something else more poignant hit me.

So many people sleeping rough, it reminded me of this song, which is about 40 years old, and not much has changed, some from today. 😢

And, as always, man's best friend is so often present to bring, at least, some comfort!

Quite. Thank you for this post. We need to be reminded often just how fortunate some of us are. I may be oldish and am certainly poorish financially speaking, but I am rich beyond belief in that I have an amazing, and I mean truly amazing, partner and a son I couldn't be more proud of, a comfortable home, friends both animal and human, and plenty of food and other comforts! I could do with some better health but now I'm being greedy! 🙂

I was a bit worried I may upset people with my post, but that was not my intention in any way, I just got moved by these poor people on the streets and at this time of year .xx

Yes, it brings it home doesn't it, at this time of year especially. Just the song to describe it too Bazzak. Thanks. xx

Heartbreaking situation for these people. Especially in this cold weather and the virus. I find it very upsetting. 😥 It is frighteningly easy to end up homeless these days from all works of life. 😥

Love that song though.

Oh dear, how very sad. Unfortunately despite the winter night shelters this is still an all too common sight.

Thank you for posting this. With all that’s going on this reminds me of how fortunate I am. It could easily be any of us. It’s even harder for them as people are afraid of approaching them in case they have covid.

I do find it upsetting, but, sadly its reality and a disgrace!. I'm sad but glad you've brought it to our notice. Its important to be reminded that poverty, the homeless, children going hungry is still happening in our quite wealthy country and others ike it around the world.

I need "upsetting" sometimes, it is why my small Xmas donation is always to the Salvation Army, I am not a Salvationist, but see them as the the most practical organisation that helps those who most need it. Although St Mungo's also helps the pets as well. Also at times like this, when I feel sorry for myself, the pictures remind me, I am warm, have a home, have friends I can ring up, have a food delivery, have the joy of wondering if I dare eat another bar of chocolate, have enough clothes, have all the medicines I need free on the NHS (or other Tax Payers!!) and all the other things that make life worth living.

No I need it sometimes, being made to think. I had got into a cycle of feeling sorry for myself. not good.

This just shows how much you care. Barry. I don't think this will have upset anyone. It's just so sad that this is still happening in our country and world today. Thank you for sharing this Barry makes us realize how lucky we are, a roof over our heads, food in the house and also warmth.

Take care and stay safe Lynne 🌈🌈

Thank you for sharing this memorable song and video with us, I listened to the song twice, whilst watching the interesting video seeing the latest buses and the older ones too. Such a shame, & wrong that these people have to be out in these difficult and freezing cold times. Some towns and cities in England along with Charities have provided accommodation & help for them whilst Covid is here. And it’s been quite noticeable the absence of people with sleeping bags, sitting in doorways in my nearest city.

This was quite an insightful reminder. A matter of priority that tends to be overlooked, that there are others more disadvantaged, vices and problems out there other than the virus... A better world begins with a better us, we get as much as we give.Best wishes for 2021. Have a wonderful new year.

Morning to you Bazzak and yes most of us on the forum have medical issues or care for thier loved ones who aren't blessed with good health. I thought to myself after listening to your video and thought "all but the grace of God .....". It can happen to the very last person you'd imagine for so many reasons. I'm not sure of a solution- ok more housing for the vunerable but that would take simply ages and some of these people choose to be where they are. Perhaps too big a problem to discuss in reply to your post but one that I would be very interested in knowing what the Government plan to do once the COVID-19 is under control. Its amazing how these people have managed to stay virus free under their circumstances. It makes me so sad and every year, after year, after year, so-called "promised help" is announced, yet where did this "help" disappear? Sorry I'm blabbing on! 🐿🌈😷x

Thank you for guiding me to this post. This is sad. Also for the animals being involved with it. I know it's companionship for them but still sad for them also. I remember going thru New Orleans seeing the people on the street. One very young woman I saw had a small dog and was sleeping off a high. I wanted to take the poor dog. The young lady also had a sign that said need money for drugs and alcohol. I'm quite sure she will die on the streets but nobody does anything about it. Not even the police. 😥

It is so sad, that video was from 40 years ago and nothing has changed. In central London. At the moment there so many sleeping rough, and not all young people 😒

in reply toBazzak

I would love to see London in the future. But with everything going on and such. Plus it takes money to do travelling. Maybe someday.

in reply to

The government people don't see all this happening in their own countries. I believe they know the problems but avoid those areas when they could be helping them. Even the veterans are sleeping in the streets when they served our countries.

Bazzak profile image
BazzakReading Rabbits in reply to

You should, I know I live there, but there is so much history, museums, and other things to see, and it is safe to walk the streets 🙂

in reply toBazzak

Now you got me wanting to go. Yes I worry about the streets sometimes. In US the streets become very dangerous at times. Can be very scary. I live in a small town but sometimes there's a bit of a scare here too.
