Gosh, I often see a solitary rose left on a bush at this time of the year; however, a cluster this size is quite amazing. What's your secretDj?

Beautiful - thanks for posting

Absolutely glorious Dj1962 and it brought to mind the old song, 'The Last Rose of Summer'.'Tis the last rose of summer left blooming alone

All her lovely companions are faded and gone

No flower of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh

To reflect back her blushes and give sigh for sigh

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one, to pine on the stem

Since the lovely are sleeping, go sleep thou with them

Thus kindly I scatter thy leaves o'er the bed

Where thy mates of the garden lie scentless and dead

So soon may I follow when friendships decay

And from love's shining circle the gems drop away

When true hearts lie withered and fond ones are flown

Oh who would inhabit this bleak world alone?

Beautiful poem. Who wrote it please?

Hi Diana, these are the lyrics to a very old Irish folk song, written by the Irish poet Thomas Moore around 1800. The tune was apparently based on the tune "Aislean an Oigfear", or "The Young Man's Dream". (I had to look that one up!). There are many lovely versions available on YouTube. This one particularly touched my heart as it references the poem's allegory of ageing and being left alone. They are truly lovely :) I have lots of Penstemon still in flower! I cannot believe I only found them a couple of years ago! They are so easy, tolerate sun, shade, drought, wet, brilliant plants! Easy to take cuttings as well, so many different colours. Love them!! Weirdly, I still have Salvias flowering too xx
