This happened to me too. PMR and GCA can often go hand in hand. It is imperative that you get a quick and correct diagnosis, as a matter of priority. My diagnosis was GCA/LVV. I was absolutely gutted to have a short spell of the high dose again but neglecting GCA can have life altering consequences. Good luck with this. I was diagnosed by ultrasound scan of my head and neck. It was in my left shoulder.

Whether you want Pred or not - and if you definitely have GCA, it’s likely to be the only drug that will protect your sight..,

But blood markers aren't always the whole truth - so do be very vigilant and if you have ANY visual symptoms AT ALL, head for the nearest big ED. And not driving yourself, just in case!

My pleasure 😊.. having lost sight in right eye due to undiagnosed GCA many years ago -I’m always on the lookout (so to speak!) to stop it happening to others..

You need a medical opinion - and if it is GCA then you WILL need pred or risk the loss of vision which can be total and is irreversible. The ultimate adverse effect of GCA is far worse than anything pred can do.
