That's very wise advice! So hard though when your brain stubbornly hangs onto the old life and the habits of pushing , pushing, pushing oneself. For example,I'm very slowly learning to be more creative with hospitality. Swallowing all pride and allowing others to help or host instead of trying to do it all. But most of the time these days, I just can't. I'm seeing it as just a season, not the end of the road for that kind of thing. Thanks for sharing this helpful post.

One of the lessons I learned when I lived in Germany was that it isn't spending hours in the kitchen that makes for a good evening with friends - it is the friends. So simple food - a favourite was raclette because you have to wait for each little pan of food to cook itself so time to talk - or a massive bowl of pasta, good bread and salads that didn't take much effort and you were done. And always together at the large dining table. When I have guests here whose arrival doesn't match with the cleaner's day - I leave the duvet covers and pillow cases for them to put on if I didn't get her to do it in advance. And we eat out a lot - everyone wants the local specialities and I don't "do" them!

Wise words …. Nowadays when I invite … everyone offers to bring a dish or drinkies! ‘’Tis the gathering that is the joy 🥰 and we all meet more frequently as a result.
