My wife is being seen by a hematologist who made an interesting comment. She told us that my wife's blood shows clear evidence of substantial inflammation. I was present for this particular consultation, so I told the hematologist "that's strange, since my wife's ESR and CRP are well within normal limits." To this the hematologist said "there are OTHER ways of measuring inflammation asides from ESR and CRP.
She prescribed the following test: TGFB1
Has anyone ever heard of this test?

Not in the context of PMR, no. It is an inflammatory cytokine - like IL-6 which is the one associated with PMR and as I understand it there is not much role for TGHB1 although it does have an effect on Th17 which is thought to be sometimes involved in GCA and presumably therefore in some PMR, It is disputed though as results are a bit mixed. Why not measure IL-6?
Ferritin is also a measure of inflammation and routinely done. My ferritin is high - nothing else is.
I am tempted to ask if she has her own lab as a haematologist - because I imagine it isn't the cheapest of tests to order.
