Any reason why PMR (no GCA) would cause balance issues and frequent dizzy spells?

Balance issues can be related to poor muscle coordination.

But what sort of dizzy spell? That could be something else. I developed atrial fibrillation as a result of the autoimmune part of PMR damaging the electrical cells in the heart that govern heart rate. Episodes of any arrhythmia can cause dizzy spells.

I checked your bio to see how old you were and if you had any other health conditions. I'm 82 and I would get a failing grade on balance if I were in school. But, I've got other issues such as hip replacement, one side, rod and fusion other side, small frame carrying less but still too much weight and throw a few heart meds in there. I save myself multiple times a day from going over. I'm good in my home but the foreign world beyond my door is a challenge. If you have no other issues, I would definitely get it checked.💞

Hi. I have the same issue. I think it's the pred because that is when it started. Plus it's ever present. I think.the muscle issue from pred is part of the problem...but there is a piece related to a kind of light headedness. Not severe.....but it's there as well. I just take my time...and hold on. But no headaches for me...that would cause concern just because of the GCA issue...but others here know better than I.

Some days balance is off; not dizziness however. Right side groin pain to where my hip almost gives out. Sometimes brain fog. It's a daily challenge of various symptoms. I would want to know what's causing the dizziness. Perhaps get that checked out?

How is your blood pressure? I can't remember if it is high, low, or both that causes light headedness. I just know that I have had high and low BP that seems to accompany it.

I had some lightheadedness occasionally on the way down from 25 mg. At 6 mg I bent over to tie my shoelace at the top of the stairs and toppled over sideways. Fortunately it was in the opposite direction to the staircase. I assume it was associated somehow to the adrenal glands. Presently on 1mg and haven’t been troubled by it for ages.

are you dizzy when you rise out of a chair? Does the room spin when you roll to your side to get out of bed? The first one could be your blood pressure. The second could be vertigo and the tiny crystals in your semicircular canals in your ear are out of place. That’s what I have right now. I’m going to physical therapy today to have it treated.

But check your blood pressure at home when you feel dizzy. Prednisone does effect the blood pressure and you may need medication for it.

Be well
