I found this to be a clear, comprehensive article on GCA from diagnosis to maintenance. The Occult GCA detail is interesting.

thank you so much!! I have written you but am having trouble with messages going through. Perhaps because I am not home ..but This article is the best I've read. Am dealing with new headache..and hoping GCA will not turn out to be the culprit. In touch with Doctor and test awaits although if I have any other symptom will get straight to ER. Hope you are soon able to go to Australia..or Australia come to you!!!

Yes I found it good. I sometimes struggle with very technical, medical papers. Daughter, husband and two great big boys are coming to the U.K. for Christmas all being well - 2 years!

Let’s hope your headache is harmless. I was almost relieved when the axe fell. The worst had happened. Silly I know.

Maybe I was feeling particularly lucid but I found it to be a very clear article. Amazing that 10 years ago all this was known and still some doctors don’t seem to know all of it.

Not this particular article but I have referenced Hayreh's work in the past. Unfortunately he tends to be lone voice in the wilderness and is 94 - so not a name on the lips of most young eye-specialists and not a rheumy so they don't know about his work either. When I think about things we knew 10-12 years ago that our GPs don't know now ...

Wow. This is very helpful and amongst the best I have seen as it relates to my occult GCA.

Thank you, Jane....what a great article. It is pretty obvious why the UK is so far ahead when it comes to awareness and research of GCA. I found the group the American Rheumatologic Assoc used almost laughable. A real keeper!!💖

Thank you...this is very interesting...and useful info to take to Rheumy appointments...especially as this guy suggests GCA is better managed by ophthalmologists...hmm. Also emphasises the individualistic nature of GCA....one size does not fit all. 🥴

I suppose it might be until PMR turns up to play!

Actually if it's cranial GCA he could be correct, after all they do have a vested interest in sight....I was diagnosed and treated early days by the ophthalmology team...brilliant......was transferred to Rheumy later - much later -who wasn't really interested I have to say.

Plus I didn't have PMR nor Extra-cranial GCA/LVV.

Would be good if they worked together - but sometimes egos get in the way!
