Must be because they didn’t say urgent!!! Seeng GP on Thursday ! Yes actually seeing her! So hope she’ll do something about it!!! Re exhaustion! Yes on 12.5. Down from 15 in July and get times when I feel all my energy dropping away to zero!! Never know when !

Read something written in Australia saying no research has been done recently about pmr because it’s usually an older people’s thing!!!! Charming!

This will probably annoy you further but is is usual for our GPs to treat straight forward PMR. The Rheumatologist comes in for atypical cases or if PMR morphs into GCA or LVV. I am sorry if your PMR has relapsed.Even if your GP is not very conversant with PMR you have this forum and the new FAQs section as well as experienced, knowledgeable people to ask questions of. I learnt everything I know from dedicated people on here. As you may know, PMR is mainly diagnosed by your presenting symptoms as well as the inflammation levels in your blood. Of course the treatment is Prednisalone- we have nothing better for PMR. In fact if Pred makes you feel better within days or even hours, it is pretty conclusive. Bloods sometimes remain normal. Have a browse of FAQs.

I agree though 52 weeks for a specialist!!! I think we are in trouble.

There have been 18 month to 2 year waits in NI for a few years.

I thought it was four to five years??

PMRpro profile image

Haven't heard of that - but I do know of up to 2 years. Probably be the same everywhere before long.

It was in some TV programme the other day about the Health Service in Northern Ireland. They were trying to explain why people in NI were waiting so long!!

Unless you pay!

Same everywhere! But there weren't any to pay either in NI a couple of years ago!!!!

…..and not all do private……I have ongoing Urology problems took many months to get an appointment and now I’m ‘in the system’ it’s still bad. Funny though I couldn’t get a foreseeable follow up appointment (that should have been six weeks) yet could see him privately that week! Disgraceful I think.

They work limited hours within the system and it isn't just the doctor - at least there is an option for private for some - and it benefits everyone because the private appointments do give some relief to the NHS ... I don't approve and private in the UK is daylight robbery but it does help.

I agree totally. In desperation I did see him privately and told him I didn’t approve. Didn’t mind he only did an hour slot for private patients. Funnily enough I got my two week follow up on time - albeit telephone!

My Urologist does a private clinic for an hour in his lunch break!

Tee hee - no doubt he earns enough for his Pret sandwich ...

Oops sorry. I should have read further before I leapt to the keyboard.!

Hopefully your GP is up to the mark. 52 week wait doesn't bear thinking about if rheumy turns out to be less than desired.

I had/in process of a 47 week wait for a Gastroenterologist - now coming up this month - wait for it - A Telephone Appointment & this is only because l’ve had Phone Appointments with the Urologists 🤦🏻 I despair l really do……

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to MrsNails

Me too - I did have a mixture of f/f and telephone with Urologist but could see him that week privately!

MrsNails profile image
MrsNails in reply to Telian

GP’s ordered a Scan with Contrast & l’m halfway through a Course of Antibiotics & when l’ve had the Scan l’m going to book to see the Lead Urologist Privately with all my Scans/Results etc & see what he has to say…..

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to MrsNails

Exactly - you can’t keep waiting or what’s the point of doing these tests. My 3 month course of treatments had increased to 6 months due to appointment delays. My GP doesn’t like tointervene because I’m under the hospital. You can’t carry on when you get flares in this department!!

Hope all goes well. 🌺

Unbelievable. !

I waited a year for a physio appointment following rupture of the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles in my lower leg which have left me with a limp, pain and unable to stand for more than 20 minutes. He gave me a few exercises and said that’s it! I still have the pain limp and immobility and can’t do everyday things. Now wait for this - I have to rejoin the waiting list if I wish to see him again! I may as well just cut it off!

Oh poor you. What else can one say?!!sounds awful. I’ve been on 12.5 pred now for 4 weeks.down from 15 mgs in July . last few days knees really aching .. (one half knee replacement done years ago.). and I wake in the morning with acute back pain around my waist. It does wear off eventually.. I tried 13 mgs the other day but just felt more dizzy.

It is a dispiriting condition I must say! I know I’m 83 and must take age into consideration.. but the boundaries are so unclear.

Good morning everyone! The sun is shining and I’m expecting a great grandchild in the next few weeks! How lucky am I ????

in reply to Bedwell

That’s great news, little ones are the best cure for everything. I have a granddaughter 8 and grandson 6 and just looking at their pictures brightens my heart.Boy or girl?

I’ve really lost faith in physio.

in reply to Telian

He emailed me the exercise sheet! I just hope I’m doing them properly. I actually feel like the RA has sneaked into the injured area now and I’m stuck with it.

We can get it soo wrong if not given an initial face to face….Don’t be afraid to contact them again if you’re struggling.

in reply to Telian

I’m resigned to it now, odd his things work out. Planned a retirement of walking holidays, lost my job too early due to covid but that’s ok, then injured my leg meaning I’d be unable to do either my job or the walking holidays. Such is life.

We planned to tour the perimeter of the UK in our retirement. The only touring we’ve completed is of the NHS. My husband jokes that the only discipline he hasn’t seen is Gynaecology- thinks he’s funny!

In the UK yes - not enough, not soon enough - and heaven forbid they should actually TOUCH you! Bit better here - though you do have to wait.

Hi,

I thought my rheumatologist had forgotten all about me. I then out of the blue I got a letter to say he’d have tel consultation in December, I don’t think I’ve seen him for many many months.

It seems standard practice now, everything is going that way.

🤔

Xx

Ps, I’ve not had any blood test re my GCA for well over 2years

Same here. My next appointment was due this month and has been put back to June 22. Blood tests are also limited to 'emergency only' due to shortage of glass phials.
