Has anyone had problems with TMJ since being diagnosed with GCA? Still no confirmation of PMR/GCA, but my appointment with Rheumatologist re scheduled for next Wednesday. Pain came on suddenly, but no problems chewing, temporal artery not occluded. beginning to wonder what is coming next.

Pain jn right TMJ.
Well I hope to goodness it isn’t visual symptoms. I think you’ve been going through quite enough for too long.I have never had the jaw symptoms with GCA. I imagine them as an increasing weariness and ache as you chew food. I do sometimes have pain as if my teeth are being pulled accompanied by tooth sensitivity and a metallic taste in my saliva. I think it’s drug side effects though, Actemra maybe. People do present differently with these diseases, it can be hard to get a correct diagnosis. My Rheumatologist was absolutely determined and gave my symptom descriptions great credence.
That's my hope too! I have at times felt so desperate without pain relief that I have taken a very small dose of ora morph that was prescribed for shingles 7 months ago. I vowed I would never take it again, but I will be so glad to see the Rheumatologist. You were fortunate with your rheumy, hope I am too.🙏
I suddenly had TMJ pain 2 weeks ago - in the middle of dinner, eating salad, not even chewing a steak! Luckily I had a physio appointment a couple of days later and she worked on the soft tissue around the joint - it improved (no more clunks) during the session, but next day there was no sign of it at all.
Hope the same thing happens to me with my physio tomorrow. After my last post I went to bed and woke about 3am, found I had a night sweat. Decided to take cocodamol and dropped off to sleep until 11am! Very dry mouth (cocodamol?) sore throat but no pain in TMJ. Difflam spray helped with sore throat and now feeling better (at least for now ) Roll on Rheumy next Wednesday.
I have had this problem on reducing Prednisolone but have had to endure it and it is worsened by trying to eat anything mildly "chewy". My particular picture is confused by me recovering from Chemo/radio for a tumour in the tonsil two years ago, am I getting the side effects of that on reduction or the GCA? which has slowly and insidiously evolved and now been given as a diagnosis. Chemo has caused bony growth on my gum line which adds to the grating and an ulcer under my tongue which wont heal but the dieticians say I need to broaden my diet to aid recovery and normality and I am low on B12 so another supplement ? It just never ends, every solution brings another problem another addition to the Cornucopia of medications and another side effect, this GCA is like whackamole. I sympathise.
What is TMJ and in please
