Yes, tinnitus is a listed side effect of prednisolone. However, the ears can be involved in GCA so the question is whether you have any other symptoms.

Thank you. Having GCA finally someone has said that it can cause ear sensitivities. My previous rheumatologist dismissed it. But then she was not interested in the condition.

How to accept the condition and change of life. Still struggling.

healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk....

I was in a hurry when I posted the first bit, wanted more info, but should have posted this link.

Do send it to your previous rheumy in case she hasn't seen it!

Sorry for not responding sooner. Just to say thank you for the info. My new rheumatologist was aware of the report. But dismissed it had anything to do with me. 'I wasn't a severe case. ' Their words. I did not realize that you had to be critical before you became eligible to say it fits the situation. I will be posting a new line later as I have been left in a huge quandary now.

And how does he know what is severe and what isn't? I really don't think SEVERITY has that much to do with it affecting ears - it is which arteries it is in.

Yes I’m glad you mentioned this: I seem to have developed tinnitus : is there no end to the side effects of these steroids 😰

Yes. At first I described it as the sound you get when holding a sea shell to the ears, but it has gradually developed a higher pitch! I seem to be more sensitive to noise too...such as having to turn the tv down when the volume shoots up during adverts!!

Don't think that necessarily shows sensitivity to noise - the dB level of the adverts is ridiculous! I don't have GCA - I can't stand them and OH isn't on pred and he can't either!

To clarify, I wasn't using 'sensitivity' in the medical sense. Yes the increased dB level of adverts (as an example of things that have a bigger impact now that I have other noises in my ears) was annoying for me before PMR and pred.

I didn't think you were! I meant I feel the same - and so does OH! I can't sit to watch TV without the remote control to hand!! Most TV I actually record and watch on a computer (using Filmon as I live outside the UK) so I can jump the adverts. I cannot sit and watch stuff live except on the Beeb because of the ads - although I have discovered a few gems on the Irish channel I use!

I developed tinnitus while on high dose pred for GCA. I have been off pred for 6 months now but still have the tinnitus. It’s annoying. I hope it eventually fades away.

I developed Tinnitus after being on Pred for 8 months. 18 months later, I still have it! I never connected the two and just thought " Oh no, something else to contend with"! Am only on 4mg daily now but Tinnitus no better. I think it is probably a separate issue for me.

Just to say thank you for your post. I read it Monday and the pmrpro ambassador gave me more info. I believe for me the ears were the first indicator I had GCA. Dismissed by the rheumatologists even yesterday (Thursday). Thanks again.
