Hi All,

Hi All,
Has anyone heard of "activated phenolics" and their effect on PMR sufferers?
I have heard of them - but I suspect that they are marketed to the communities that believe that oxidation is bad and antioxidation is good. I'd think that any benefit is limited. I am inherently sceptical of anything that claims wide-ranging benefits - especially in the absence of randomised controlled trials. But I am funny about that!

discusses polyphenols - and, like everything else, more is not always better, "Oxidative species" as they are called also have important roles to play in the body and it is known that too much eradication of them can lead to problems later.
Your best way is to get polyphenols through a good diet - usually a "brightly coloured" one with plenty of fruit and veg. And I think most of us would say our PMR is better when we eat better.
I think this may have been the basis of some activity around "an apple a day ..." a few years ago after this claim was made:

No idea as to how they would help PMR
On an internet search the first three pages were all sales and then I got to a lonely paper, so that speaks volumes to me. I always worry about hitting the body with unnaturally high doses of single nutrients routinely as we are made to eat a varied diet of many nutrients that have effects on each other. I wonder too about the lack of toxicological data and what a high dose of one thing does to the activity of others.

Me too - and I was very impressed by the number of companies carrying it compared to the scientific backing. NOT ...
Thank you PMRPro appreciate your response as always.
