Today started off well. Beautiful morning. Had Steroids,(Now up to 17.5mgms) rest of meds, breakfast, bath, set off with dog for walk ( about a mile,) Came back in such pain, all round hips, legs and intense pain always gives me a headache. So Paracetamol and the Archers.
Oh dear, so much to do! So much I want to do but pain is so incapacitating, mentally and physically.
I wonder if I need to increase the Prednisolone again?

Have you had that hip pain investigated? If not, you need to.
I doubt that raising oral pred is what you need and is not something to be done without being sue what it is you are dealing with. Without knowing a lot more it is difficult to suggest what it might be - but if I went out to walk a dog for a mile or so I would be limping by the time I got home.I develop trochanteric bursitis as part of my PMR symptoms and walking for long really wakes it up. More oral pred doesn't do the job - it must be managed more locally.
And my usual plea - please could you add your history to your profile page!
Did you see the doctor about that sensation of your hip joint popping out. You may have actually injured yourself and need an X Ray.
Is there a different kind of leash that you can have the dogs on to minimise pulling on you? An extending lead or a harness that is round the little mutt’s body. 17.5 is a good high dose for PMR. The headaches are concerning. Do you have any other GCA symptoms - like a painful jaw when eating or talking, a sore neck ( pain in the ear) any eye symptoms at all? These things need checking out. You do get dull headaches with PMR ( I do) but if this is a new headache and you are not getting better in the way you expect, symptoms need to be investigated.
I am sorry that your lovely walk on the beautiful morning was spoiled. Good luck!
I have a lead that has a plastic zig zag shock absorber in it. It does take some of the strain away, especially if they do surprise pull. My dog has always been a terrible lead walker. They reckon collars are better for discouraging pulling. Most of my injuries and aches in ankles and arms are due to the dog in some way! I usually go to the docs just to register it. I certainly would ask them to investigate hip pain.
Please don't raise your pred dose any more without medical advice. It doesn't sound like it's PMR at this point, much more likely to be an injury. Hope you can get that checked asap because you shouldn't be in such pain.
I developed hip pain different to my pain from pmr and it turned out to be wear and tear and nothing to do with pmr or my pred use. I had steroid injection under ultrasound and have had about 5 months of pain free hips but its just starting to rise again so will need to go back to gp. You need to check it out.
Walking in the morning would not be my choice and certainly impossible for me on lower doses of pred. I always rest after breakfast and shower, any walks have to wait till late afternoon or evening but I'm on 7mg now. Perhaps try going out a bit later after steroids have had chance to kick in.
Hi Jane-s. So frustrating isn’t it? You feel good and want to exercise and then.... I have the same sensation of my right hip popping out. Then I raise my knee and it seems to go back in place and everything is good for awhile. Soon that didn’t work and X-rays showed nothing really and I was treated for bursitis with a steroid shot which has handled it for about the last 5 months. I can feel twinges now, but so far manageable as long as lifting it to my chest pops it back in🥴
Yes ,it seemed to go back quickly but has been a bit sore since. My GP laughed at me and said it couldn’t happen with a sneeze! I think walking isn't too good and pleases my old dog to have a shorter walk . Gentle Pilates seems OK. As long as the bits of soreness and twinges are manageable I’ll press on!
too bad you told him a sneeze. a fall and he might investigate! If the pain is only in ONE hip and not bilateral..I don't think it is PMR.. not that you don't HAVE PMR but this is different. You might have pulled a muscle .. sneezing is actually a powerful thing!! Hope you are able to investigate further. I have walked miles throughout the PMR. less than before. with lots of sleep every night and the occasional nap. and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. (combining today's response to a post!)
Nice to hear from you again; thanks,I had a lovely birthday! I had an X-ray of the painful hip 2 weeks ago following visit to rheumatologist registrar which shows OA and severe degenerative changes in my spine. Oh dear.
Now I have to taper down slowly as Prednisolone is not good for OA but still have to be careful re the GCA! A tricky balance.
