Hi me again, still not certain what exactly is wrong with me - since i last posted i have been on 10mg pred and gradually reducing, now on 7.5 with low level neck pain and upper leg pain / lower back pain gradually coming back, BUT what is most concerning is BP has gone through the roof (189/120) sent to a&e and, no heart attack, put on 5mg of amlodipine..
Now, 2 weeks later bp down to highest level of normal, but, still totally breathless just speakibg let alone moving, and i am having increasing sternum pain/ache that is waking me up - pressing around sternum area is really sore. Could this all be pred related? I amawaiting referral to cardio and to neurologist as well for droopy eyelid, still waiting for the differential diagnosis since pmr was advised, lucky i have private health through work so they can throw everything at me. I know that is a priviledge. Still concerned something wrong with my heart...

What you are saying sounds very scary. I don't think I'd wait for an appointment. If you have that much swelling/ pressure in your chest it is an emergency. Go to the emergency room. Please take care of yourself. Life is too precious
Hi...I found amlopidine was a killer for me. I thought I was dying . My sternum and ribs and really hurt periodically ...it was Costochondritis.
Mmm, thats what i am thinking, why would a bp drug cause that though? I can live with the costochrondritis if that iswhat it is, but the breathlessness was before the amlodopine and hasnt improved although bp is down ... still tachycardic around 98 resting ...
I found In The first year I got a bunch of weight at the top of my tummy. I couldn't bend to tie shoelaces without hurting and being breathless. It was like a roll of fat pressing on my diaphragm. It has now gone but sometimes the tummy muscle and sternum and ribs facets feel tight and painful, right from the back round to the front. The x-ray and deca scan showed deterioration of the facet joints and the endplate was abnormal. So there can be things grumbling along in the background.
I think that your symptoms warrant another visit to the emergency room. Especially as the pain wakes you up and you are so breathless. Let us know how you get on.
pressing on the sternum sounds like costochondritis. Inflammation of the connecting tissue (not sure ) of the ribs. I had it. Not dangerous but really hurts like crazy. google it.
I agree with yogabonnie. As long as you rule out the more scary issues, it can be costochondritis. I had it it was very painful and getting worse. My physio gave me an exercise that works great. Within a couple of days the pain went away. Couldn't find a picture but here the name and description: Spinal Mobilization. With rolled towel placed lengthwise between the shoulder blades, lie back on towel with arms outstretched, 3 min, 2x a day. I hope this helps.
