I just got over a broken rib! I Just finished a slow 5 week taper going from 6 1/2 to 6 .Last week I started going from 6 to 5 1/2and thought I was having withdrawal but the burning pain this morning was in my thighs , hips, shoulders, and arms. What should I go up to and for how long?
This is where I had the pain when I was diagnosed with PMR.Do I need to stay on 6 longer?Could it be the adrenals?

It sounds like you have just tipped over the right dose and full symptoms have shown there teeth. Perhaps 5mg more for 3days or so then back to 6mg and see if it settles. I am at 6mg (and dmard) and found full symptoms returned several times. I used the plus5mg for 3 days then back to 6mg. After 4 attempts the rheumy said to stay there for a while yet. That was last September. I have bloods next week and will see what markers are. Rheumy already told me that I may be in low single numbers for a long time. Crp was 10 last time and suspect no taper until that is lower.
Much more likely to be the PMR. I'd be straight back to 6mg in the hope it is enough.
From now on I'd suggest hanging around on each new dose for a couple of weeks at least to be sure it is still enough. The lower you get, the nearer you are to "that" dose! You aren't reducing relentlessly to zero - you are looking for the lowest dose that gives the same result as the starting dose did. The starting pred didn't cure anything - you are looking for the dose that manages the daily amount of inflammation as long as the underlying autoimmune disorder lasts. But you are at a good and low dose already - not much to worry about.
