Ulcerative Colitis
Hi i don't but was interested...it is know to travel with pmr. I am sure someone will be along to share their stories. I found this link
Yes , I do. Since 1999. Luckily only 4 major flares , took prednisolone and azathioprine and managed to get off the pred. Still see gastro consultant every year and have regular colonoscopies.
Hi York54
I have never had to take Pred for my UC - have managed to control it even after flares with 5ASAs.. you say you managed to get off the Pred. Do you not take Pred now for your Polymyalgia?
My PMR is in its infancy but for it I have been prescribed Prednisolone . Am kind of wondering if it will have any effect on my UC??
Hi Jaycee, I couldn't take the 5Asas, they made me really nauseous. My flares often got out of control and Pred was the only way , otherwise I couldn't leave the house ( you know what I mean). I was on 30 mg pred then. I have had PMR for 3 years and have been trying to reduce, having had to go up after a flare. Now on 7mg .The UC has been quiet for a long time but I'm sure taking pred for PMR must help in that direction too.
Thanks York54
Good to talk to someone else in the same boat. Have had UC since 2014 but first major flare up last year. Took 6 months to get it back under control but was lucky to be able to do it without Pred. Seems as soon as am remission for that I got clobbered with PMR. Some days I get really low and think "why me?" but I guess I should be saying "why not me" . There are others worse off but at times life is a bummer lol.
PMR is just the name for the set of symptoms due to an underlying disorder - and PMR and UC symptoms coincide in one form of inflammatory arthritis - enteropathic arthritis.

They mention ankylosing spondylitis - AS may start by appearing identical to PMR and there have been a few patients in the forums over the years where this was the case, in one lady it even causes symptoms that were typical of GCA.
