My Osteo gave me acupuncture and I found it helped when I had terrible pain and stiffness in hips. Haven't tried hypnotherapy and probably wouldn't - just a personal choice. All the best.

Yes I tried, it did not help me at all. Neither did Bowen therapy or manual lymphatic drainage. Massage and visits to the osteopath did help me. Some people find acupuncture etc does help so it is not the same for everyone. My attitude was give it a go. If it does not work pack it in.

Yes I have tried acupuncture and hypnotherapy but not really for the pain. I had acupuncture from a traditional acupuncturist (who had done 5 years of training). She was the only person who looked at me holistically, and as she said helped my body to cope with all the influx of drugs. I went to a hypnotherapist to help with sleep, as I was getting only about 3 or 4 hours a night. Huge help and I am back to my normal 8 or 9 hours a night.

I have been having laser acupuncture twice a week for 3 months since Feb. 2017, then once a week for some months and once every two weeks until Feb. 2018 and blood tests show the PMR has disappeared. I was first diagnosed in August, 2012. Better still; it is bulk-billed, so no out-of-pocket expenses.

Hi AussieBev, I am not sure that you can see if the PMR has actually disappeared from blood tests. All it will show is that the steroids have got the PMR under control so you have normal readings. Some people, around 20%, never have abnormal readings. High readings can also be caused by such things as colds etc. That does not mean that your PMR has not gone away. If everything is OK without pred it probably has.

Are you also on pred?

I was on Prednisolone for a couple of years and this was replaced by Methotrexate when I had pneumonia and was hospitalised for 10 days; 4 in ICU, at which time the Doctors weaned me off the steroids and I have not been back on them since October, 2016. Recent blood tests are not showing any signs of PMR.

If mtx alone worked - the chances are it wasn't PMR in the first place.

I think I have to agree. I never experienced any help with pain while on the methotrexate. The only reason I continue is hopefully to get off the prednisone easier.
