Hi quite new to this, diagnosed in February. I am now on 10 mg of pred and have been for 4 weeks. I feel I am just about holding my own and am very reluctant to lower the dose. Is it ok to stay on this dose longer.

Oh dear the site is playing up again. I have got your old posts and my response disappeared. I referred back to the useful replies you had 8 days ago and suggested you stay put at 10 until you are ready, then do a slow reduction of 0.5 a month. Look at your list of posts in your home page.

Just be sure that it is symptoms, not fear holding you back.

As Jane has alluded to, symptoms are key. If your symptoms have improved and given you back your quality of life since diagnosis and treatment, then you could try a half mg reduction - sort of testing the water. However, if you feel concerned, another week or two at 10mgs is neither here nor there if it helps to reassure you.

Hi,

Have answered previous post, but just as others say, no harm in staying at 10mg for a while longer.

Don’t be frightened of reducing, but do it when it feels right for you.

One top PMR expert has an approach to managing PMR that keeps the patient at 10mg for a year. It reduces the rate of flares from 3 in 5 to 1 in 5:

However - if you CAN it is probably even better to try using a slow reduction approach and drop 0.5mg at a time as the others have suggested. At the end of any reduction step you should feel as good as when you started - that is your guide.
