Anyone have metallic taste of food ,and loss of taste and stinging on tongue,my doc reckons could be nerve damage due to vasculitis

Yes, I've got a metallic taste in my mouth, had it for a long time and I think it is due to the Gabapentin I am taking. No loss of taste, although I do get a very sore tongue at times. Corsodyl mouthwash helps both. I've never connected the sore tongue with nerve damage as it comes and goes.

Hi Mick,

I almost completely lost my sense of taste for a few weeks after 5 doses of IV methyl pred, I just put it down to that.

Recently I have had a big flare of my headache, blurry vision jaw, facial, nose pain and my sense of taste and smell have been badly affected.

I don't have a diagnosis of GCA but what your consultant says makes sense as nerve damage due to reduced blood flow is common in vasculitis.

Hopefully your symptoms won't be permanent. I found the only way to enjoy food was to eat spicy things, I know that won't suit everyone though.

Hiya all. I use Corsodyl too when my mouth gets sore. I find it helps.My taste has definately changed a lot! Tea isn't as enjoyable and yes I'm with you Keyes on the spicy food, I seem to be able to eat much hotter spicy food, everything else tastes so bland. I am putting it down to the Preds and maybe some of the other meds I'm takung too. The cramps in my feet and calves are a nuisance too. I suppose we just have to get on with it don't we.
