Can't understand why it has gone on for 30 years - Doctors wouldn't normally ignore this sort of chronic condition (I assume it has been going on for longer than you have had PMR or GCA)?

Have you been checked out medically to make sure that there are no underlying conditions? Have you thought of asking for a second opinion? Have you been seen by a gastric consultant?

Have you charted what you eat and drink and when the spasms start timewise in relation to eating and drinking and when they stop? Have you taken this to any specialist you have seen?

If all else fails you could try a nutritionist (make sure they are well qualified and experienced) - but they will ask if you have ruled out all medical possibilities first - if they don't, then they are not much good. Be careful.

Good luck........

Thank you Greengirl for your concern.Yes to all your questions.I have crohns(genetic),but nothing serious to do with it.On American website there are many people in similar situation.A mystery.Obviously ,plus PMR,general systemic thing. What I know about food and stuff would fill a book.It hasnt killed me yet....!There is a famous German saying "death is in the bowel",and we all know what that means! God bless, take care,Soo

Sometimes the cause can be that the brain decides, that whatever else is going on, that particular function (ie eating) needs more blood. This can mean the heart is then working harder to increase the blood supply to that particular spot, therefore depriving other parts of the body. Has anyone checked this out when the severe spasm is actually happening to you?

Sambucca, What a good idea ,I had not thought about the blood diversion thing.Yes, I was monitored for a day and nothing showed up.! So kind of you to take trouble.A "quietener" does not "cut the mustard".MAYBE oesophagus spasms.Looking into it.Kind regards, take care,Soo.

Yeh, when I was on steroids food would get stuck after only say half a roll. Doc prescribed something to relax the gullet but I never took it. In stead I ate more slowly and drank as I ate and that solved the problem. No problems now I am off steroids!
