Yes, have had them all along together with night sweats and the bad news is that I still get them now at age 69. However, they are less frequent and a little less unbearable when they do happen. Mine were never anything to do with the menopause as I had a hysterectomy at 34 and I was still on HRT when it all happened.

I have tried all the herbal/homeopathic remedies but nothing seems to deal with them. I've got used to wearing towels in hot weather (the very latest in fashion- not) and sleeping on them instead of sheets at times. Mine do now seem to coincide with high levels of humidity - which make me feel worse anyway - so perhaps I will find a way of dealing with them eventually. Anyone who has any ideas about how to treat them, please do!

There is something called a Chillow which you can put on your pillow and which helps. It's annoying to set up, but worth it.

Thanks folks. Fortunately, mine arent severe. Mostly during the day, think as you mentioned may be humidity. I get them at mealtimes. Wierd! Thanks again. I really feel lucky as I think my symptoms are fairly mimimal. Although not nice! Started on 20mg of Pred in April. Now on 8mg. Best wishes to everyone.

Yes I'm 54 had a hysterectomy at40 so Dr says that its down to the steroids. Really annoying and uncomfortable. Started at 30mg got down to 5mg but am back up to 7mg now as I couldn't cope with the pain.

I,too get awful sweats, anywhere anytime.Doctor just said it was due to the steroids.I had started on 60mg.daily,now down to 10mg daily, but also getting the temporal headaches again.

Haven't been chatting for a while as have moved, which was quite an ordeal, having lost my husband last year.

Wish all fellow sufferers well.

That's interesting - at 68 I hadn't had flushes for a couple of years, but am getting them now! However, am down to 6mg and reducing 1mg a month, with no problems so far. I also have a very good, understanding and concerned doc. Lucky me!

I am not on steroids, I get hot flushes, could be the medication. Sitting quietly in the evening, at night time also. I am hypothyroid, I thought I would be feeling the cold more, I did not expect the flushes, and am way past the frivolous old days. I hope you will find an answer soon.

Hi :) I get hot flushes too, I have noticed that hot drinks can cause them to occur more frequently, strangely I get a sensation of heat/burning on the top of my head which then seems to 'flush' through the rest of my body making me feel very hot and sweaty. I very rarely drink hot drinks now and stick to juice and other cold drinks, it has definitely made a difference, although some hot meals can have the same effect if I have a cold drink with my meal it seems to ease the symptoms. :)

I can understand what you mean, it is annoying and uncomfortable. Many a night I wake up feeling a burning, I put my legs out of the bed, even in the winter, just to get some comfort.

Yes, just getting over the hot flushes, but the steroids have brought them back. Very annoying but just dismiss them and learned again to live with them. Throwing back the duvet is common every night!
