Difficult to answer as it depends on the individual. I always found that I began noticing weight loss once I was down to 10mg, but others need to go lower than that.

Happily for me this time round I discovered I had lost 7lb without even trying - a really good boost for me. I am trying to lose more (I've shed 1st 7lb so far) but my mobility is not good for other reasons and it is proving difficult to budge, I just want another 7lb to disappear!

You might be reassured to know that I have only been able to lose a bit of the weight I had gained when I got down to 1 mg prednisolone. Lots of other people lose it earlier but I certainly haven't...starting to slowly come down now. I still watch my eating very carefully without being a misery about it.

I think the weight gain is affecting me as much as any of the symptoms of the illness or other side-effects of my medication. I've been on 10mg now for around two months, still no sign of weight loss and I am trying to restrict my diet and do as much exercise as possible, which sometimes is very little due to extensive fatigue.

At least the sun is shining now which helps me smile!

The weight gain bothers me as well, but what can you do ?! The sunshine does help doesn't it? I also recently became "Mum" to a little rescue dog.Has helped me keep sane.Makes me get out for a walk, even though sometimes I struggle to put one foot in front of the other, otherwise I think I would lay around all day, which is not good.

Best wishes.

It depends on how well you stick to the low sugar, low salt diet, plus not eating refined carbs, but don't despair, on the lower doses - below 10mg, the weight starts to come off.

A great deal of the weight gain is due, not to fat, but to fluid - the salts and sugars have to be stored in some thing. I drank it away by keeping my water intake high - 3 to 4 pints a day. That sound 'back to front' I know, but it works for me. I still do it now even though I am down to 6mg of pred and only about 5 or 6 pounds up on my original weight.

It can be a long haul, but don't give up hope, just watch your diet and pace yourself when you feel weak.

Pats.
