Social Occasions and medication

When meeting other pwp, it always strikes me how well people seem and how mobile they are. Perhaps they are doing better than me but I wonder whether people generally take more medication for such occasions or at least make sure they are fully dosed. I'm curious to know what people do or how best to approach such situations.

I take my medication/supplements systematically every 4 hours for PD and extra ibuprofen if I need to be pain free ( back issues ). I’m only 1.5 years in so I may not be the best qualified to answer your question. Being social is a big deal and I am proud of you for making a solid effort! Keep going!!!

Take 20 to 40 MG propranolol for such occasions 1 to 2 hours prior

I take extra meds or change the timing of my meds if I’m doing anything extra like socialising or playing tennis or attending work meetings. Don’t want anyone to know I’ve got Pd.

Same here. I do likewise, time med dosages and take a little extra if I need to. Also rest or nap beforehand if an evening or night activity. Most people also do not know I have PD.

Hi there. I’ve had PD for over 6 years and if I have something planned socially in the evening , yes I might take 1/2 cd/ld extra before the event and if it gets to late, almost to my night dose of meds I might take another 1/2 to keep me good until I can get home where I can take my usual dose. If I take my whole evening dose while out , I will fall asleep , so try to control that but have fun. But every day is different . Don’t give up and take care. Karen

If you're already taking L.dopa, the smallest dose of soluble madopar does the trick! I use it as an emergency measure, works in 15 to 40mins, low dose so just enough to boost ya.

Important not to overdo it though.

I take nothing additional . I only try to keep myself calm and not excited to look better or to become concious of my disease. Keep yourself normal and engaged , ignoring your problem. Believe me no one will be able to spot you as a person with PD

If I take extra medication I get terrible dyskinesia so I rarely socialise any more.

That is sad.

I have used Inderal (propranolol) 10-20mg as needed both for social occasions and prior to drawing blood in my career as a nurse. Helps with my internal and external tremors.

I hate dyskinesia so I'm probably chronically under dosed.

I’ve had PD for over 7 years. I'm normally under dosed and I use to increase to a regular dose when I need it.
