Yes! I was thinking of asking this myself. I have degenerative disc disease resuling in spinal stenosis at L1-2 and L3-4 from the herniation. I was aghast when i saw my mri and it looked like the spine of someone twice my age. Its hard to tell if my lower back and leg spasms / pain are caused by this or the pd, or both. Going to seriously give physical therapy another go.

I do not think your back pain is caused by PD, had my back operated on two years ago ( disk removed) after years of suffering, no back pain since, keep pushing for a final solutiion from your doctor or specialist to rid you of the awful pain you are probably getting.

bassofspades Same thing with my husband - over the past 2 years he's had 4 steroid injections in the spine with varying degrees of relief. Presently awaiting an appointment with the physio here in the UK - he was referred by his GP 6 weeks ago!

Can't help wondering why so many PWP seem have similar problems with their lower back?!

Been putting off surgery for 5 years. Gonna give pt one more go and if that doesn't work i go under the knife. Laminectomy with diskectomy and probably hardware since its multiple levels.

I had two discs clipped years before PD diagnosed. Eliminated terrible pain. Walked four miles a day for exercise wth no problem. But around time PD diagnosed started having soreness in legs, also rubbery feelings. Asked more than one doc what was going on. Was it PD, return of disc problems, or arthritis. They said they did not know, but it could be all three. Now I can walk only a mile and a half at one time, slowly. I use stationary bike for most daily exercise.

I herniated my L5 S1 disc 30 years ago and since then have felt weak on my left side -- achey muscles between neck and left shoulder, and left buttock and leg. I was diagnosed with PD two years ago and because I had a left hand tremor I wondered if the L5 S1 problem had anything to do with it. Maybe I didn't have PD? But neurologist said no... it's PD.

I developed sciatica three years ago, over a year after my PD diagnosis. Because I lost a reflex in my ankle, my MDS referred me to a neurosurgeon. After PT, steroid injections, etc, did not help, I underwent partial removal of the L5-S1 disc and fusion, for stenosis and spondylolisthesis. I got immediate relief from the leg pain, which has not come back,.. Now I have developed scoliosis, and a leg length discrepancy, and have occasional back spasms. At the time of surgery, my neurosurgeon told me that it was often counterproductive to operate on PD patients backs, because the disease continues to deform, and you end up chasing after more operations. I would not have another surgery, but I would not change the decision to have the operation, because the pain was unbearable. And the pain is gone now! So that is my story, and I understand that many would have a different opinion or experience. Let's hear it for PD, the snowflake disease!

Thanks to this thread, my mind is distracted from my pd symptoms and focused more on my spine issues. Been hitting physical therapy hard now and my parkinsonism has subsided quite a bit! Just an observation.
