Has anyone taken Carnosine 500 MG. Saw it... - Cure Parkinson's
Has anyone taken Carnosine 500 MG. Saw it on Dr. Oz yesterday, says it it good for Parkinsons.
No. Do tell. Please.
Hi Penny,
The stuff I've read about it seems to indicate that the verdict on Carnosine is still out. I did not hear what Dr Oz had to say about it, but would love to. Meanwhile you might choose to read some of this:
very con: Note, mostly educated opinion
caprofile.net/CARNOSINEwarn...
Somewhat strongly pro: Note, mostly "dated" references (Pre 2007) and seemingly mostlyh based on a study from Russia (?)
Doubtful of value: Note, info from Timothy Boyer who has a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology: emaxhealth.com/8782/l-carno...
General overview from WebMD usually fairly objective: webmd.com/vitamins-suppleme...
You'll probably need to copy and paste these links into your browser.
Hope this helps! Great idea to bring a question like this to the group to hear if anyone has further insights!!!
Thanks!

The top link is a speculative warning from 2002. It is broken, so I'm putting an archived version here.

There's a scare about carnosinemia. People with genetic defects who don't produce carnosinase (the enzyme that breaks down carnosine) can have a heavy buildup of carnosine, and bad symptoms like neurodegeneration and other serious problems.
I'm glad to know about the existence and issues of carnosinemia. But the reference says that people with Parkinson's have about two thirds of the carnosinase of normal people. That's a lot higher than zero, which is what somebody with a flat-out diploid genetic deficiency might have.
