Does anyone with right side hip pain with Parkinson's use a Stressless recliner chair for comfort and if so how do you find it ? I'm thinking of buying one.

I use a reclining chair upholstered with memory foam and fitted with a massage gadget for the lower back which provides relief when my hip and right leg are painful. That said, my physiotherapist is fantastic, and the need for the chair is minimal - I also try and stay as active as I can to keep the pressure off the sciatic nerves at the base of the spine and regularly do floor exercise to decompress the spine; sites.google.com/site/beaux...

I hope you find the right pain relief

Regards

Andy

Many thanks for your help Andy. I do regular exercises recommended by my physio and walk everyday but have pain sitting. Someone recommended the Stressless chair but I am reluctant to buy one as they are so expensive.

Ekornes Stressless recliner and footstool. If this is what you mean, we had one. It cost us $1500.00. It was not helpful at all and it was sat in maybe 10 times, not comfortable at all. Some people love them.We sold it for $200.00.

My wife who has PD and therefore some significant posture and stiffness problems now uses the "Ab Lounger." She loves it because it allows here to arch here back (extension i think it is called) with this machine (although is primarily sold for comfortable sit-ups and I love it for that! So much better than doing them on the hard floor or even a mat). Not sure if it would help with hip pain, but worth trying. Any movement and/or stretching seems to help my wife with her back pain and general flexibility. Here's a link to the one we have:

My husband has the stressless recliner and loves it. He has had pd for 10 yrs and bought this chair 8 years ago. When his back is tight and painful this chair gives him relief. I know he would recommend it.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Mosiechi,

My symptoms are all left side so a mirror image of yours. When the pain from my left side 'clawing & twisting' got bad enough to keep me from sleeping & even lying down was uncomfortable I decided to act. I looked at every specialist manufacturer, supplier & mobility aids adviser seeking a solution that would 1/ enable my feet to be on a level with or higher than my head (I'd had a heart attack) 2/ had arms to help me get on or off it 3/ was upholstered in a comfortable material which is easy clean 4/ had leg & foot support 5/ was wide enough to sleep on 6/ could change position easily.

Having done the searches & tried most of the chairs in showrooms I decided that the Varier Gravity chair was for me. It is wooden framed, rocks into 2 resting positions with feet raised & can rock forwards to give a good back position for desk work. I am using one now. As with all special furniture it was expensive £1800 rrp. I bought mine in a sale for £1400. Then my husband liked it so much I did the sensible thing & after a long wait bought a used one on ebay for £400. The company sells products under 2 other brands: Stokke which makes the Trip Trap baby chair & Balans which includes squatting stools & saddle trundle stools.

I have slept in mine on many occasions cocooned in a duvet & for everyday lounging they are our favoured seats. They are designer statement items - you either love or hate them.

Please visit as many showrooms as you can to try all the options before you buy & if it is not urgent put watches on the main online sites for pre-owned ones. You might have to wait as I did because people tend to fall in love with good designs so they rarely come up. I do hope you find your chair & enjoy using it as much as we have ours.
