Wendy Butler in BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour "Remarkable Women on 2011" in special New Year's Eve broadcast

Wendy Butler, who was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in February this year is included in BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour line up of remarkable women of 2011 in a special New Year’s Eve edition of the programme.

Wendy joins an auspicious line up of women in the programme including Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi, former head of M15 Eliza Manningham-Buller and astronaut Colonel Catherine ‘Cady’ Coleman.

Wendy is indeed a remarkable and inspirational woman and has been instrumental in helping us raise awareness of pancreatic cancer in a very positive manner. She has been featured in a Daily Mail interview, has appeared live on BBC Radio Oxfordshire and took to the BBC Breakfast sofa with Pancreatic Cancer Action founder, Ali Stunt.

Her husband Peter set up a blog entitled Wendy’s Army Blog as a source of information and inspiration initially for friends and family but now enjoys a huge following from supporters and people affected by pancreatic cancer.

The original Woman’s Hour interview with Wendy was in June this year. Wendy was given between 6 and 12 months to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She tells her personal story. And the programme looks in more detail at pancreatic cancer – why are survival rates still so poor?
