Does anyone know if suddenly developing thrush,... - My Ovacome
Does anyone know if suddenly developing thrush, when never experiencing it before, is anything to do with recurrence - or HRT?
Hi Sara,
I'm sure it doesn't mean you have a recurrence, but that your immune system is under stress. Get it treated by a doctor - don't just buy the over the counter stuff as it can sometimes be too harsh and cause more problems than it solves.
Very best wishes,
Isadora.
Hi Sara,
First of all I am flabbergasted that you are on HRT because they think my ovarian cancer was caused by HRT. They have been linking some ovarian cancers to HRT for a number of years now.
I have to admit I had been on it for many years to combat the onset of osteoporosis, after 40 years of steroid use because of asthma and also a hysterectomy in my early 40's.
What I have found is that since I have had my cancer my body has changed considerably. I was always getting thrush, have done all my life, but once my cancer 'arrived' I have had no more problems.
I agree with Isadora get it treated by a GP.

Hi Sarah
I had several occurances of Thrush when I was on carbo/taxol. My onc gave me a supply of Nystatin which got rid of it within hours everytime. Meryl XXXX
Hi Sara
Your body changes with the menopause, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that :), and even with HRT your hormones and body chemistry are different to what it was before, so this could be why you've got thrush now, having never succumbed to it before.
Thrush is easily fixed though, just ask your GP.
(btw Anna, not all ovarian tumours are hormone related, just as not all lung cancers are smoking related )
best wishes

Thanks for your replies! I will get this checked asap. (It may not be thrush, in fact. That was my self-diagnosis based on what I have read on the internet.)
Anna, indeed, the clear cell adenocarcenoma I was treated for is not an oestrogen receptor.
Thanks, again.

I know not all ovarian cancers are HRT related Sara & Pixie, just making a comment on my particular case. All I know is if I knew 10 years ago what I know now, I would have said sod the osteoporosis and gone off HRT. This drug now just sends shivers down my spine, as I know it has left my life hanging by a thread. I had all the things going for me NOT to get ovarian cancer, I have two children, I had a hysterectomy at the age of 42 (another reason they suggested HRT), so all in all the odds were there for me not to have o/c. Guess I was just plain unlucky.
Actually even when going through the menopause I still had thrush, it wasn't until the cancer hit it seemed to miraculously disappear.

Anna, I can now see why HRT would make you react with horror. That is really bad luck. Did you keep your ovaries after the hysterectomy, or did the OC start somewhere else?
Was it proved that HRT was the cause, do you know? I wonder how much we should trust the statistics for HRT risks.
I often wonder if IVF caused my diagnosis - or did I have IVF because OC was already there lurking in the background? These are questions no one will ever be able to answer. There is very little evidence of cancer in my family and I am the youngest of five. I never thought it would be me to have a life-threatening illness first. I was probably just unlucky. But lucky yet to be alive, as they say.
I hope the OC has departed for good, for both of us!

Hi girls,
Thrush is usually caused by a yeast infection which can be triggered by the use of anti-biotics and other drugs, my daughter gets thrush each time she has anti-biotics.
if that isn`t the cause, sometimes soap and shower gels can cause it or at least aggrivate it.
You can buy Canestan cleansing cream to wash your bits in, its very soothing and once its cleared up always use a PH balanced shower gel or soap.
The first thing you should really do is have a swab taken to check it is actually thrush, so a visit to the GP is important. I doubt this is anything to do with a reoccurance of your cancer but your swab results should ease your mind about this and your GP is always the best person to guide you. Chat to him/her about the HRT while your at it, ask about the OC risk. Once we have had OC we are always going to be at a slightly higher risk of "breast cancer" and vice versa. HRT can also increase the breast cancer risk as well. So, I would talk to your GP or oncologist about the HRT. Sometimes the better quality of life factor can out whay the risks, this does need to be taken into consideration as well and remember we are all individuals.
Good luck with the thrush situation, its so not nice, but easily cleared up.
