I was told to expect a discharge that would gradually diminish and turn a yellow-brown colour over a period of 6 weeks. I also had severe abdominal pain in the hours before going to the loo. This seemed to be caused by waste matter passing through the alimentary canal en route to the bowel. They usually remove the omentum during surgery and this involves moving your other organs out of the way so yards of intestines are displaced and it can be quite uncomfortable after these are put back in place for a few weeks whilst they settle down. My oncologist explained that internal organs don't have flesh to cushion brusing so then will tend to hurt more than had you assaulted the outside of your body.

I hope this helps but if you're in severe pain and worried you should ring your oncology nurse to check this out - or contact the Ovacome Help line Monday to Friday.

Just on another note you have used the default setting for the blog which is 'visible to everyone - recommended'. This means that anyone outside can read your blog and all the posts linked to it. If you feel you'd rather keep this blog to the Ovacome Community you can go into 'edit' and change the preferences.

Hope your pain soon goes and the discharge settles down.

Thanks Annie, have edited to restrict viewing. Sound advice as usual. I just thought I'd feel better than this by now...

Still had my first delicate walk in the sunshine

Dear Caro - just checked your profile. I really should have done this before replying. If you've only just had your op you can expect discomfort for a couple of weeks. My GP recommended taking pain-killers over a 24 hour period rather than waiting till the pain started which was always about 2 in the morning.

You're doing well - and let's hope the sun continues to shine so you can continue your walks a few minutes more each day until you're feeling fine again. It usually takes about six weeks before you're really up and running.

Advice as always - don't overdo it - no housework, no lifting, no exertion. You have lots of stitches to mend.

I'm a great believer in denial and have had my head firmly in the sand for the last two fantastic years. Take time to absorb the information all and don't get bogged down with statistics or ask questions you really don't want the answers to.

Here's to the ostriches! xxx love Annie

Hi Annie, thanks for your care.

I think in some ways I have PTSD from the shock of how I was told my diagnosis and the negativity. Partly my fault from asking too much. I completely agree with your advice about not asking questions you don't want the answer to. I definitely don't ask these days.

I saw a counsellor who described me as in 'positive denial' , thought it was great and advised me to stay there. She also said there was evidence that it helped the treatment outcome.

So it's official, it's good to be an ostrich, and I'm hoping to be here for a few more years to prove it.

Feel a bit better right now..

Just sending you my best wishes, I know it is hard not to worry but if your nurse says it's ok I suppose it is,as they do have a lot of experience in this, I can't say I experienced this though, if it continues it might be a good thing to give them a ring to make sure... or you could give the Ovacome helpline nurse a ring on Monday and speak to Ruth Payne tel 0845 371 0554

Hi there

so sorry that you have had this issue....if you have been " over doing " things this is not unexpected...I am 3 years after my first operation and looking back realise what a huge trauma the first surgery is ....we all try to do too much. Let us know exactly what stage you are at.

love
