Hi Nandi

Ihad my last taxol beginning of Dec. last year and am starting gemcitabine and carboplatin tomorrow. It is my 6th line treatment. Are you starting the same shortly?

Good luck with whatever you have anyway.

I finished carboplatin as a single agent in January. It was my 2nd recurrence. My 1st line carbo/taxol, 6months remision. First recurrence carbo/caelyz, 7 months remision. 2nd recurrence carbo alone and only 4 months. I have responed very well to the previous treatments. CA125 back to normal by the 2nd dose and good scans by the end. My CA125 was 9, 4 wks after my last carbo, the lowest ever. I asked if I could have gemcitabine/carbo and that is what I start on Tuesday. I am BRCA2+ and had tried for a PARP trial and 6MP BRCA but did not have enough measurable disease. I have PPC which tends to recur more in strands.

Did you have taxol weekly and was it effective for you? Hope you will have a very good response to gem/carbo.

Take care,

Dorothy xx

Hi Dorothy,

Good luck for tuesday then. I'll just be a day ahead! Wonder what it will be like this time!

I have not been in remission since 2010, i was having weekly taxol and my ca 125 dropped to 380 from 4000. But has started to climb again

Will be thinking of you

Dear Shen, so sorry you are feeling so scared I think we all do,but at the same time its best to live for the day and try and enjoy life. Very difficult at times.

PPC is primary peritoneal cancer. It is very similar to ovarian cancer but starts in the peritoneal lining . It is treated in the same way as ovarian cancer. I was diagnosed 3 years ago.

Trials have very strict criteria for joining. You can only join a trial if you fulfill all the criteria. I did not fit the profile for onePARP trial because I have PPC and it did not state PPC. They are now making an ammendment to include PPC but it will be too late for me this time. The 6 MP trial required at least 1.1cm of disease on a CT scan, I had numerous areas of cancer but none were that big, so that is why I could not join that trial.

Good luck with getting onto a trial. Also with feeling less scared.

Best wishes and love,

Dorothy

I am on gemcitabine carbo. I have just had my third treatment having had single agent carboplatin 2 years ago. It will be my fourth line chemo. My Ca 125 has been dropping. At beginning of treatment was 1200 and has now dropped to 180. I am having a scan next week so will know more then.

My wife had carbo/taxol, normal 6 x 3 weeks sessions but it didnt reduce her CA125 below 300. Five months later basically it all returned. Then she tried weekly Taxol but only had it 4 times because CA125 continued to climb.

Third line treatment was/is Gem/Carbo and she has just finished that and we are waiting for scan results. CA125 still high but down to 100, so the lowest ever. Interim scan results showed decent tumour reduction.

Good luck.

hi Nandi, I had gem/carbo for my 3rd line chemo after 6 month remission on carbo and taxol again. I only had 4 treatments as my scan showed clear and my CA125 was down ro 20. That was over a month ago now. I am BRCA 2. Hope all goes well for you. X

Thank you Chez for some more encouraging news. Have you looked into any of the PARP trials?

Take care x

Hi Nandi,

I would have had to wait too long after my relapse in February this year to get on PARP trial and my oncologist wanted me to get going on the gem/carbo quickly. I had heard from her that the PARP trials were having problems with funding. Had you heard that? Also what is 6MP BRCA and PPC that you mention? I should probably know. By the way I had gemcitabine on Day 1 and Day 8 of each cycle. I only ended up with Day 1 of cycle 4 as my results were good. I will not be able to have carboplatin again in the future as I had a second bad reaction on cycle 4 and had to stop. However, cisplatin will be used instead although I understand the infusion is much longer and it can make you more sick than carboplatin.

Good to talk to you as a fellow BRCA 2, Nandi!

Chez,

I had not heard that the PARP trials were having difficulty with funding. There have been a lot of changes, I think the projects have been aquired by smaller companies who specialize in developing drugs for rarer cancer types.

PPC is primary peritoneal cancer, it starts in the peritoneal lining, but is almost identical to ovarian. It is often classed as ovarian and is treated in the same way.

6MP BRCA is a trial using 2 chemo drugs, mercatopurine and methotrexate in pill forms to treat BRCA+ breast and ovarian cancer. If you google 6MP BRCA you will find the info.

So glad your results are good and hope you stay well.
