Thirsty! Does Niraparib give you an overwhelming Thirst?

Hi all,

Yes, I too hope you are all as well as can possibly be.

I am doing fantastically on Niraparib, with lots of energy and very little nausea. I am in my 8th week on this PARP and so far bloods are good.

But, I am so very thirsty all the time and drinking loads and loads, litre upon litre of filtered water.

Yet, I am not urinating any more than usual and I do not feel swollen anywhere, so I cannot figure out where all this water is going.

Is this happening to anyone else in Zejula/Niraparib?

Thanks for your continued support.

Hugs to all,

Laura

Glad you are feeling great on Zejula! I have a ton of energy as well. I, too, wonder why I drink so much and pee on the same schedule as before. I drink filtered water and have added mineral water which seems to quench my thirst. I am also on a cleanse and still do not pee any more than usual. Where the heck does all this water go?!

A mystery! I see the Oncologist next Monday and I will ask.

People have remarked on dehydration, but it is not one of the listed side effects.

Are you on 200 or 300?

Thanks for replying,

Hugs,

Laura

I'm on 100 and alternate with 200 every other day. It is a mystery. For example, I am at work...had already 3 litres of liquid. Have not peed since 8 this morning! Am I a camel?lol. I'd be curious to hear what your onc has to say. I know one of the known side effects is dry mouth. That could be the result of dehydration?

Will be interesting.

I’m probably drinking more water than usual but I’m up every two hours during the night getting rid of it!

It’s reassuring to know that so many of us are experiencing this phenomenon.

So we should all inform our doctors!

I will be seeing mine Monday.

Hopefully, we will either have a new side effect to report or an answer to the why? And where does all the fluid go???

Hugs,

Laura

Hi

I don’t want to worry you but my overwhelming thirst turned out to be the first symptom of chemo induced diabetes. I was diagnosed by chance when I was admitted to hospital for another serious side effect.

Such diabetes is a reasonably common side effect and may eventually resolve itself but in the meantime requires treatment.

My suggestion would be to contact your GP ASAP.

Oh dear!

You are alarming me!

Diabetes was actually the first thing I thought of when I started having this overwhelming desire to drink!

In fact, when I first was sick, I also had an overwhelming thirst and went to my GP to be tested for Diabetes.

I was in the ER next day with cancer.

My GP said my tests were fine.

Meanwhile, I will try to watch my diet Til Monday, just in case,

Thanks for the heads up!

Hugs,

Laura

Hi, Laura! Try not to worry too much. I have been thinking about this for a few months. I'm always thirsty and have to drink mineral water just to break up the monotony of regular H2O. My bloods came back this morning and my potassium and glucose were fine. I am on Potassium pills and that's the only thing I can think of as to why I'm so thirsty yet not urinating to represent my intake. Very strange, but, I guess the Potassium pills make my body hold on to water so I'm not peeing out all the potassium?

Good luck on Monday and let us know!

I thought that people with diabetes who were thirsty, were thirsty because they peed a lot - the body trying to get rid of some of the excess glucose. Di

Thanks! Learning to love my new hair.

I look pretty healthy, eating too much! But still anxious about my second month appointment on Monday.

Oh, and just to add, I had a blood sugar test (fasted for it) and will get the results also on Monday.

But, meanwhile I have been drinking less this week, so, who knows?

Monday will tell!

Hugs,

Laura
