Hi - I used BioCare Nutrisorb drops when my level fell during chemo. BioCare are on line but have delivery charge. Local Good Health Food shop should be able to get it for you
Hi Friscok, I can't take tablets since being on chemo so I take a liquid called Osteocare. It has Calcium, magnesium, vitamin D & zinc.
I am on chemo & have read on here you shouldn't take vitamins but I am so worried about my bones I take it for the magnesium.
I haven't heard of powder forms so sorry can't help on that. Hope some one can give you the advice you are looking for take care Cindyxx
I take Solgar chelated magnesium tablets and was given tablets as an in-patient too.
Yes, I take chelated magnesium tablets. Remember that magnesium is also a laxative. Get your magnesium blood level determined and have your GP tell you how much you need. They work very well for me and stop muscle cramping, joint pain and helped my neuropathy go away.
The tablets I was given in hospital was a tablet you crushed into water?
I couldn't stomach it. So naughty me asked for an infusion! I was 5 weeks in by then and felt I deserved one treat!! Xx
Hi. I've been prescribed both tablets and powder over the past 12 months. Didn't like the tablets much as had to chew them and they stuck to my mouth but I've got used to the powder, Magnaspartate which my GP reckons I will need to take every day for the rest of my life! I dissolved it in a small glass of water which I try not to taste as it goes down - such a baby 😁 Jo x
I was given an iv infusion followed by sachets of powder which were quite pleasant to take.
Anybody had side affects on the tablets i have not been of the loo today xx
My mum had magnesium with her last lot of chemo then she had these huge dissolvable magnesium tablets. I didn't realise they caused diahorreah (can never spell that!). Tesla, it's interesting to hear that they helped with your neuropathy as mum's right foot has gone numb and it was probably caused by the Paxilataxel which she was having alongside Carboplatin. She's going to a physiotherapist to try and get some of the feeling back in her foot. Jane x
A while ago there was a thread that said magnesium can be absorbed through the skin, using Epsom salts or similar. I was prescribed sachets but only took a few as they gave me diarrhoea.
Yes Lesley is right. It can be absorbed through the skin in an Epsom salt bath (you can get magnesium sprays too that you rub into the skin). Whether you can absorb enough through this method if the magnesium is chronically low is another matter, and I don't know the answer!
For a bath, you need at least 2 cups of the salts (not a little sprinkle!) and to sit in it for 20mins to absorb the goodness.
Hello Yoshbosh. Interesting about the Epsom Salt. Mum started soaking her numb foot in Epsom Salts but I think hasn't for a while. I must push her! I think Brazil nuts have magnesium too don't they? Interesting about the spray though. Jane X
Brazil nuts definitely have selenium, but I don't know about magnesium!
Hi - I just Googled Brazil nuts and got this (below). So, they do contain Magnesium but you are right, it's more about the Selenium! Think I'll get some nuts from Holland and Barrett as the Penny Sale is on so I can stock up on some nuts for Mum. I'm spending the week with her from next Friday X : In addition to selenium, they hold superb levels of other minerals such as copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and zinc. Copper helps prevent anemia and bone weakness (osteoporosis). Manganese is an all-important co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.
I had magnesium tablets prescribed w hole on chemo as I always have low magnesium. Di
