Hi. I have been treated at Wrexham and had surgery at Bangor in march. Chemo finished in June but I am currently being monitored as there is residue of disease. Bangor hosp was at least 50miles away but the care was excellent. Mr toon did my op. my onc is dr Azam in Wrexham. I find him reassuring and easy to talk to. The staff at the shooting star unit are lovely. Jane Evans is the gyne clinical McMillan nurse and she is very helpful just wish there was more like her. I would have thought she would be caring for your mum. It would be a good idea to talk to Jane as I'm sure she would help as she would know your mum. Its a really scary time and I send you all my best wishes. My daughter often accompanied me during chemo and I know she worries just like you. Chrissy xxxxxxxx

Hi Chrissy

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it's reassuring to know that you've had a good experience with your treatment (if good is the right word - you know what I mean). Mum will also be operated on by Mr Toon. I think it's worrying her that she will have to go to Bangor for the op - how long were you there for and what was your recovery like? We tried to be with her a much as possible during her recent stay in the Maelor so I think we might have to book a hotel near Bangor and take it in turns to stay up there - can't bear to think of her being miles away on her own feeling horrid.

So pleased you are recovering well and are 'coming out the other side', as it were! Thanks again xxxx

Tell your mum to try not to worry. I know it's daunting but she will have good care. I was in for 4 days and recuperated quite quickly at home although I was quite surprised by this. I was lucky enough to be spoiled by family and friends for some time after which helped my recovery greatly. For me the chemo was far worse than the op. i think mr toon knows his stuff well. He rang my partner immediately after the op which I thought was good. Tell mum the views of the mountains are spectacular from the ward! And she will be with others in similar situations. McMillan provide funding for a few overnight stays at a local b&b so you might want to look into that. Ask Jane Evans in the maelor.

Love to your mum and let us know how she gets on. Xxxxxxxx

I had surgery at Bangor in October last year and have received subsequent treatment at Shooting Star at Wrexham Maelor.

The staff looking after me have all been wonderful and kind, and my CSN is really lovely

Good luck with your treatment
