Anyone had secondary cancer to the bowel? I've had first line and second line treatment for OC, and it seems it has returned to the bowel?

Florence, I´m affraid I can´t give you any advice, but I´m thinking of you.

Hugs,

Fernanda

My cancer is throughout the abdomen on the peritoneum which is itself wrapped around the organs of the abdomen and the bowel. My bowel doesn't work as well as it did so I take Movicol which works by drawing water into the bowel and thus helping it to work a little better. Sending you my good wishes.. Love Tina x x

Sorry I don't have direct experience Florence, but am sure someone will be along who has. Just so say: stay positive, if there is one thing i have learned here is that you CAN keep beating it back no matter where it pops up - or down.

Hi, all I can say is that after 4 yrs of meeting women with OC at clinic, reading this forum, and reading many stories on the internet, the spread of OC to the bowels appears to be inevitable. In Sandra,s case during her debulking surgery they found a tumour the size of a walnut on her bowel. The surgeon resected the bowel by removing the tumour and rejoing the bowel without any difficulty. He admitted afterwards he could have scraped it off but chose to cut it out instead. Now we are 4 yrs on with evidence of bowel invasion again. At the moment we have been fortunate not to have had a blockage or perforation. I know some who have had bowel issues resulting in a stoma. It is very likely that the chemo treatment will shrink your tumours be it on the bowel or elsewhere without the need for surgical intervention. I wish you well. Love Paul xx

Hi Florence , I'm a bit similar to Tina , I had tumours on the outside of small and large bowel. They have been removed but things don't work as they should. I stick to a high fibre diet , which doesn't help I'm sure and take laxido as well , which seems to keep it moving. I also know people who have had a stoma but luckily they managed to remove tumours from mine. Best wishes dy xx

HI Florence

My cancer recurred around the bowel and unfortunately it did result in my having a stoma. This probably is not want you want to hear right now, but I just wanted to say that it is not so bad. It can be embarrassing, but overall I think it is very clever that someone thought up this idea, which ultimately saved my life. I had my surgery 8 years ago and am quite used to it now, I even wear a bikini sometimes. Also, although mine is permanent, some people just have to have a temporary stoma.

So please do not fret about whether this may happen. As the others have said OC often recurs on the bowel and I have heard it described as like barnicles, ie lots of little pieces that cannot be removed very easily with surgery, but will respond to chemo.

I have a recurrence and I am now on third line treatment , I have now got two tumours indenting and surrounding the bowel bowel and rectum, the chemo is given to attempt to shrink the tumours ...best wishes love x G x
