Recognising that after surgery for oesophageal or gastric cancer, patients often cannot eat full restaurant portions, OPA has devised a two sided card that can be discreetly shown to waiting staff in a restaurant.

The first side states "Due to a serious medical condition I require urgent access to toilet facilities". The second side states "Due to a serious medical condition I am unable to eat normal portions of food. Please provide me with a child's size portion".

We have these cards in the following languages:

English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Greek, Polish, Portuguese, and Turkish.

You can order your English card here - opa.org.uk/products/opa-res...

and other languages here - opa.org.uk/sections/opa-lit...

I have been treated at Addenbrooks (Cambridge) and was given a couple of cards, one of which explains that following an operation I can only manage a child's portion, but have never had to use it as most people are understanding when you simply state that following a cancer op. you cannot eat a full serving.
